A biomedical scientist who called her Portuguese neighbour a "Spanish whore" during a row over a fire alarm was cautioned by police for a hate crime and struck off. No wonder the cops have no time to solve burglaries.

England's seaside towns, like Southport, are microcosms of the country at large, where the magnificent infrastructure has been neglected to the point of decay and we barbarians live amongst its ruins, says Joanna Gray.

Sir Keir Starmer should recall Parliament so MPs can have a "more honest debate" about mass immigration, Nigel Farage has demanded as he accused the PM of a "faltering approach" to the riots currently sweeping Britain.

When Ben Pile moved into a new house he got a nasty surprise. It had a prepayment meter that was about to run out of credit. Fixing this proved to be absurdly hard, which, presumably, is just what the green lobby wants.

Dóchas don Todhchaí

Tá dóchas nach beag sa teachtaireacht a tháinig amach as Tóstal na Gaeilge, a bhí ar siúl i nGaillimh thar an deireadh seachtaine.

Agus “An Chéad Ghlúin Eile” mar théama aige, dhírigh Tóstal na bliana seo ar dhaoine óga na tíre agus, mar a mhínigh an Coimisinéir Teanga, Seán Ó Cuirreáin, ar an dúshlán atá romhainn mar phobal Gaeilge “cinntiú nach mbeidh an teanga s'againne ar cheann acu sin a ligfear le sruth trí ghéilleadh don síorbhru ó thonn báite an Bhéarla inár dtimpeall”.

Bhí tráth ann a raibh íomhá sheanaimseartha ag baint le hócáidí móra na Gaeilge ach ní amhlaidh atá cúrsaí a thuilleadh.

De réir a chéile, tá an mhuintir óg ag glacadh páirte níos suntasaí in imeachtaí agus díospóireachtaí teanga.

Feiceann daoine óga na tíre seo an fuineamh agus an tiomáint a bhaineann le gluaiseachtaí teanga i dtíorthaí eile, amhail Tír na mBascach agus An Bhreatain Bheag, agus is mian leo gníomhú ar an dóigh chéanna.

Tá an spiorad seo le brath in obair eagraíochtaí ar nós na nGael Óg, atá ag leathnú amach fríd an tír i rith an ama agus a reachtáil oíche shóisialta i mBéal Feirste, ag a raibh níos mó ná 100 duine i láthair, ag an deireadh seachtaine.

Tuigeann daoine óga mar seo go bhfuil freagracht acu féin i gcur chun cinn na teanga san am amach romhainn, .i. an teanga a labhairt, seirbhísí Gaeilge a iarraidh agus a úsáid nuair is gá.

Ach tá daoine óga ann fosta nach bhfuil eolach faoina thábhacht seo agus tá sé faoi phobal na Gaeilge agus an rialtas an teachtaireacht a scaipeadh.

Más ábhar dóchais é an bheocht úr seo don todhchaí, is ábhar gnímh é chomh maith.

Is léir ón Tóstal go dtuigeann eagraíochtaí na Gaeilge go gcaithfear cuidiú le muintir óg na hÉireann an teanga a thabhairt leo.

Tá obair de dhíth ach is tús é le próiseas riachtanach a chinnteoidh go mbeidh an teanga beo beathach i measc an chéad ghlúin eile.

Is maith an gníomh seo.

B'fhéidir gur b'fhiú do na gaeil óga seo a dtuairimí faoi cheisteanna domhanda is áitúla a chur síos ar an suíomh seo.
