Us, electrons who collide and light up the night

category national | miscellaneous | opinion/analysis author Thursday February 02, 2006 23:21author by Seán Ryan Report this post to the editors

The story continues....

This time it's a big mixture of politics, science, sociology and loads of other 'ologies.' Some tongue twisters for the mind are included.

Without a doubt man singular would not be as advanced as he is today if it were not for humanity. We bounce thoughts and ideas off each other and are able to mass assimilate the information into core laws and technologies. Man bouncing his ideas off rocks and small animals would still be trying to figure out should he kill it, eat it, or fuck it?

Some would say he has yet to get past this.

If you look back through history to today, you can see society has believed and done some pretty mental stuff, and that we have never stopped. At any one time, I reckon half the world is pretty astounded by the behaviours and practices of the other half of the world, and I don't mean to look at the globe and divide it into two, but to look out your window. We are in a pretty constant state of worry as to whether everyone has gone nuts or that maybe they are right and it is we who need to modify ourselves.

Indeed we wouldn't know whether we were sane or insane if it were not for others. Sanity is defined by the mob. This is why the few should never be totally in command, as society itself has great propensity for insanity, it is only by diversity that this madness can be controlled.

We just cannot get enough of our fellow man; it doesn't even matter if he is as bored as we are. We even make TV soaps about our fellow average citizen, yes we shall be enthralled by the humdrum of existence mirrored on us, so we can see that it doesn't get much better. Yes tune in tomorrow to see does Sally go to bingo or go to the Rovers and get pissed. And we worry about poor Sally, does all this bingo mean she's going to have a nervous breakdown, we really feel for her, we know everything about her, she's like family. She's always welcome in our homes.

Why are we so fascinated with each other?

Who knows?

Who cares?

Yes this is a very strange force at work indeed, sometimes it stems from rebellion and others it stems from wanting to conform, like gravity it refuses to be quantified.

The fact is that we are curios about each other to the point of psychosis. This is either one of the consequences or even causes of society. We want to know more about our fellow man because we then have a relative ruler with which to gauge ourselves with. Everybody judges everybody else. Not in a sense of guilty or innocent either but purely for comparative analysis. I'm not suggesting that this is the only reason, but that it is a very important reason nonetheless.

This is the core of social evolution, we constantly measure ourselves in comparison to others, and we adapt and improve upon what we see.

This allows for rapid learning and advancement. Couple this with chance and the possibilities are endless and sometimes dangerous.

It is as if we are electrons in a void. Our chance collisions with each other produces light that may be absorbed by other electrons so that they may proceed at a higher energy level. Who knows where they may go with this extra energy and who knows where or what this energy or light may illuminate?

This can be seen in our preoccupation with trends and fashions.

Of course this is a process and thus is prone to inefficiencies and glitches.

Sometimes the reason we do this gets lost. We have a tendency to focus on maintaining the machine rather than the reason for its existence.

In this scenario there is a force at work similar to gravity. When you get enough people headed in a certain direction, others will follow out of curiosity and others will follow these thinking there to be purpose other than curiosity involved, out of curiosity. And so on and so on. The only thing being that when enough people form enough mass, this gravity will prevent any light from escaping. Gravity here becomes both the force of apathy and hopelessness. And it is this gravity that belies the concept of inherent truth, there are but two escapes, the first being when the mass becomes too dense and explodes, and secondly the mass may be perturbed by or attracted to another mass.

The truth unfortunately is that the gravitational force in Ireland has been in existence for so long that it has irreparably damaged the mass itself, in that the only real force at work is the desire for unity because the actual nature of the gravitational force has changed dramatically over time. It is no longer about the mass finding a centre of gravity where all will be content, but about gathering the mass itself, it seeks to become a singularity. Remembering that a singularity is a paradoxical situation where most laws break down.

It is a process like this that tries to teleport Irish humanity into a new universe. The carrot that originally attracted people has begun to move in a very interesting way, it moves towards a singular point but rather than accelerating it shrinks at an ever increasing rate (or is it that space expands at the speed of light?), the mass follows it but because it is behind it in its momentum and shrinkage rate the carrot will always be seen to be accelerating away from us. Welcome to a place where size does not matter, only relative size. The carrot by the way is the ethereal matter of Irishness. Irish people will be stretched into a long thin line that points at and persues the carrot. Those behind shall always follow those ahead who will forever accelerate off into the distance ahead of them. The new Irish universe becomes one big queue and tries to prove that the waiting list is a universal law.

Yes the Irish people are a race of dreamers, that is the truth of it and it is anything but a shameful thing to be. The shameful thing is that we pursue the dream but never stop to build it.

For instance we figured out how to build houses thousands of years ago, why is it still so hard to possess one? You see technological advances do not necessarily mean that mans situation will improve, the sad truth being that a house is a technological advancement that most have not yet reached. In fact it is really blatant that technological advancement is for bettering the lives of the few who forever have never considered themselves to be part of the many.

I reckon if Ireland was pulled out from under us and we were left floating in the sea, one would observe the true nature of society. Why do we not act as if existence were so important all the time, regret is all the wage of this sin, this way pays.

The few deciding what will be, is not democracy, nor is it proportional representation. The gloves are off for this one. If you are happy with the state of your country, then you should indeed feel, like you are represented by your government, otherwise let your loathing be the gauge of your representation, and let it be the only representation you slam into a ballot box. Don't anyone dare to say this is the best we can achieve and that it is the fastest we can achieve it. For that is the ultimate of insults that could be levelled at the dignity and traditional values of the Irish.

To magnify the point a bit, is it not true that parties decide policy and then campaign on these issues. This is a far cry to being responsive to the needs and wishes of the masses. This if being responsive to anything other than sheer greed is responsive to the mess they have created in the first place. And is thus a false idea of the sense of an Irish will.

We are of a universe that at a certain level has become self-aware. The universe to me can never become fully self aware, the reason being that as awareness increases, the nature of the universe changes to encompass this awareness. The matter we are made from is simply recycled hydrogen from the big bang, constantly evolving, constantly being recycled. Change is awareness in and of itself. Entropy seeks to increase change, and as a consequence, awareness can become more sophisticated. It follows that the areas of ultimate chaos in the universe are those that can be most self aware and that possibly each can relatively see and relatively understand the overall big picture as it is not unlike themselves in form and structure. These are areas that express and receive information and discover what was, what is and what might be.

Mankind is the paradoxical idea of what happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object and is therefore a wonder indeed. Time is the irresistible force and the mind of man himself is the immovable object. The mind of man always remains as now where as we know time drags us forwards. For instance to say nothing gets bigger or that nothing lasts forever, do not tax our intellects, now imagine nothing or space actually getting bigger. Yup nothing is changing but we can see shitloads happening. Yes the answer to the paradox is that nothing will stop or start either the immovable object or the irresistible force. With nothing happening anything is possible and what's more becomes imaginable.

However this should not be the guiding principle of government, as nothing will happen whether they help it or not, and I add that this is not the reason they were elected. They were elected to see that each relative piece of chaos becomes more chaotic and is a clearer representation of the universe from every perspective at every time. By this I mean that every individual must have all that it is possible to have and must have all the potential it is possible to provide and culture, and satisfaction must be seen to increase with time. Otherwise in the long term society becomes about the destruction of man, rather than about preservation and evolution. I reckon this is the way we have been headed since we hung around in groups and trees, and went and busted other groups with clubs. This is an area where we have each become very technologically advanced, but some, very much more so compared to others.

Those in government should set the example, not be one. It is time Bertie stopped trailing his knuckles along the ground and stood up erect to show what an Irishman can be. And stopped picking fleas and things off Mary Hearny and grooming her and stuff, speaking metaphorically of course. Either the ideals of his party are enough or else he chose poorly to get involved with and for them in the first place. Then again these actions of grabbing other parties to regain or retain control can be likened to the actions of a drowning man. He is a very poor example of proportional representation, he is more about proportional control and misrepresentation, and I for one refuse to be measured to or by him. And I don't care what he is made of.

Ask not why shit does not stick to Bertie but ask why shit wants to stick to him. Yes, Teflon only repels shit; it does not attract it. Yes Bertie, despite his magnificent Teflon suit of armour, is a glorified shit magnet. Again speaking metaphorically that is.

Of course the Teflon armour is but an illusion too. You see we expect our politicians to be sleaze-ridden maggots. So when they show us that they are we are not surprised, hence there is no strong reaction. We have been trained to expect and accept sleaze from the very foundations of Irish government. And this is not just paranoia on my behalf; it is a worldwide, accepted fact that the Irish government is seen as one of the most corrupt governments in the so-called civilised world.

And I further charge, that when these people start to ply their trade on each other, is the only time there is a hue and a cry. I mean to say the only reason Charlie Haughey is in hot water is because he tried to fuck the rich over. As opposed to Bertie Ahern getting elected to fix the country and this is his second term, why is he not up on charges for the state the country is in?

And why tribunals?

They have no power to administer justice short of punishing non-compliance.

Tribunals are a cynical way in which the rich avoid punishment and take themselves out of the justice loop, which all, are supposedly subject to.

Couple this with the fact that most cost more to run than was misappropriated or stolen to begin with.

Tribunals in other words are nothing more than a vehicle to facilitate the past, the current and the continuance of sleaze and injustice that this country has become the patent for.

I for one, am an almost fan of Charlie Haughey, for instance when he was younger and in college he started a riot because the Union Jack was flown above the Tricolour in Trinity College. I believe he introduced economic policies into this country that were genius (I disagree with these policies absolutely, but admit they could have and did work the way he said they would). He was willing to take a risk to himself what with the arms scandal (If he was involved that is ;o). It is also poignant too that nearly all the rest of the government at the time were acting very politically and militarily neutral in the North despite the fact that it was at that time seen as being under Irish sovereignty under the Irish constitution. I have no problem with anyone, who is the leader of this country, to have a very affluent lifestyle compared to others, they should represent us after all, they should be the best representation of what it is to be Irish. It is a fact that short of his politics, I begrudgingly admit to respecting him. I mean he never hid what he did or the way he did it from us. We all knew he was a glorified dictator whilst taoiseach, he introduced the concept of soiling himself in public finding it a lot less damaging than trying to do it in private, which tended to piss people off more so than the soiling act itself. Yes in my opinion Charlie Haughey is the only true innovator Fianna Fail has ever possessed.

Do I think he was good for the country?

No, because he intensified the principle of sleaze by rubbing it in our noses, and he opened the doorway so that all could follow in his footsteps.

But I believe we should leave him alone, I mean the tribunal will not dispense justice anyway, and at the end of the day he is a man who despite the curvature of his character and ability is at least exactly as he promised he would be, which is damn more than anyone who has followed him. It is a pity that some independents wouldn't take the 'grab the bull by the horns attitude' that Charlie possessed, if this could be encouraged the potential of this country would be formidable.

Yes when asked about the Devil, Charlie, any Fianna Fail head will be more than willing to tell you how much of a bastard he was, yet when asked to recall their own dealings with him, recollections become hazy and fuzzy. Surely this is a demonstration of sleaze also, rather than as suggested a poor memory. It's a funny quirk of human nature to always remember what is owed to us but that memory and recall fade when we owe. As I said sanity when defined by the few is not a pretty sight, and when indulged by us all is pitiful indeed.

Seán Ryan
