Naked Woman-Chained And ‘Beaten’ Protest Animal Circuses Galway

‘Bruised’ and Sprawling on the Ground, ARAN Beauty Bares All

For Immediate Release:
January 10th 2005

Contact:
John Carmody 087-6275579

Galway – Wearing nothing but shackles and covered in “scars” and “bruises” as a result of violent “beatings” an everyday for animals in circuses, a curvy blonde will expose the arrival of animal act circuses into Galway in front of a banner that reads, “shackled, lonely, beaten” accompanying this protest will also be members of Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) with signs reading – “the slave trade is alive and kicking” and chanting “boycott animal act circuses” whilst giving out leaflets to potential circus goers.

Date: Tuesday,10 January
Time: 12.00 noon
Place: Beside Oscar Wilde Monument on Shop Street

Why all the fuss? In order to force wild animals to perform stressful and often painful acts, trainers use metal bullhooks, whips, muzzles and electric prods. These horribly cruel training methods are commonly used in Irish circuses all over the country. This is part of ARAN’s ongoing campaign around the country to show the misguided public that, animals in circuses have being taken from the wild at some stage in their life for a lifetime of boredom, misery, cheap tricks and cruelty. Animals in circuses really are not volunteers; they are slaves, confined to their ‘beast’ wagons for some 23 hours a day with no room to exercise compared to that of their homes in the wild. Animals in circuses regardless of them being ‘born’ in the circus, still have the instincts of their fellow companions in the wild, they like to roam for miles, go hunting for food and vegetation and raise their young. ARAN will also be distributing DVD’s of a recent undercover investigation into Irish Circuses by our colleagues at Animal Defenders International that show’s cruelty, neglect, abuse, beatings and horrid conditions.

“This cruelty and these beatings are what the circus is desperate to hide from the public,” says ARAN’s stripper for a cause Janine Foley. One hour of my discomfort is nothing compared to what these poor animals are going through in the traveling circus. “I have chosen to be here, these animals are not volunteers. They have been deprived of their precious freedom and beaten for a lifetime of cheap tricks.”

ARAN’s ‘Naked’ circus campaign will also be visiting Cork, Galway, Belfast.

This protest could not have occured! I demand pictures to prove it!

author by observer2publication date Fri Jan 06, 2006 15:44author address author phone Report this post to the editors

of course it could not have occured, it is scheduled for 10th jan at 12 noon. Whether it does occur is another thing. Interesting that animal rights activists attempt to highlight injustice by using a naked woman described in their p.r in a titilatting manner. Interesting to see what womens rights groups have to say about the use of a naked curvy blonde to attract media attention. Sexual exploitation or what?

i'm a bit dubious about charles bs motives in demanding to see pictures of this.

but when confronted with the possibility of a nubile, young, naked blonde lady being beaten and dragged through the streets I came over all queer like (not the contemporary usage of the word, mind), and neglected to observe the dates on which this shocking spectacle IS to take place, my humblest apologies. However, I still demand pictures, if at all possible of the lady who is to take part in this wonderfully grotesque piece of street theatre, perhaps to see if it would be worth the trip to support the cause. And Pat, as for my motives, observer has used the term from which my motives arise, titilation. I do not, of course, support the abuse of any being, unless of course that is what they expect/have paid for. But you would be right at all times to question my motives, for at times, they may be quite dubious indeed.
After all the naked female form,
used in context,
and for a justifiable reason,
is not pornograhy,
but art that can truly arouse,
the senses that seperate us from our fellow earthly companions,
the beasts.
We are not their keepers but their divine equals,
and we have betrayed them,
to eat them doesn't bother me in the least,
but he who beats his dog is no friend of mine,
when was the last time you bought your mongrel a jug of wine?

It was posted in the Limerick pest..er post last year.Trouble was the naked lady wasnt very naked she was in a bikini and a flesh colord body stocking. No great looker either, sorry.Nor was it done in the middle of the day.
From the pic it looks like it was done at about 7 in the AM,as Cruises st was very empty.Possibly for quick escape if the Gardai showed up for a arresting the animal lovers for exposure and scandlising public morals. All of five people there inc blonde bird on leash, who didnt look very beat up either.

Look John,if you are into kinky sex fair enough! But would you at least keep it in the privacy of your home and not use it for our just as warped ideals.Try somthing different, the nude thing has been done to death, and sorry you and your crew are not supermodel types. So it is more off putting having to view you and yours wiggly bits in public than doing your cause any favours.

aran thanks for all the amazing work you are doing, i'll try my best to come along and support the demo too - but with the clothes on. Ill ring the campaign also this week with some information i have.

does it not occur to ARAN that what they are protesting at can be reduced to a world view which sees living things in an instrumental way, as means to entertainment, a nice dinner, or even petty titillation. it's two faced to condemn one instance of this through the medium of another. of course the difference is that ARAN's 'stripper for a cause' has the freedom to choose, but its not much of a choice when its already operating within a social world that rewards adherence to these degrading stereotypes.

Very conscientious of modern day students, I have to say.

God be with the days when Trinity students only got their kit off so they might appear on back page of Piranha social and personal college magazine or because they thought they needed to in order to get a 2:1 in Philosophy.

Pity about the miserable, "Loaded"-style byline, though:

"Quick lads, it’s an almost-naked woman, shoot it before it goes —the promise of NUI, Galway student Janine Foley to strip naked to raise awareness of cruelty against circus animals drew the kind of media scrum normally reserved for the arrival of King Kong in Galway city on Tuesday. However, Janine was told beforehand that if she took all her clothes off, she would have been arrested."

Bloody Fascists*.

I don't know if this is real or not but i do know circuses have been known to abuse their animals. We should do something to stop the abuses and if they made this up then they would just be trying to stop animals abuse. their trying to do the thing by doing this. I really don't care if this is true or not all i care about is these animals and so should . Even if it fake that doesn't make it right to go on and let these animals be abused it's not right. We should do something about it.
