News Breaking In Italian Press / TV that US Used Chemical Weapons on Civilians etc in Fallujah

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Monday November 07, 2005 19:56author by eeekkkk Report this post to the editors

.

"A US veteran of the Iraq war told RAI New correspondent Sigfrido Ranucci this: I received the order use caution because we had used white phosphorus on Fallujah. In military slag it is called 'Willy Pete'. Phosphorus burns the human body on contact--it even melts it right down to the bone.

RAI News 24's investigative story, Fallujah, The Concealed Massacre, will be broadcast tomorrow on RAI-3 and will contain not only eye-witness accounts by US military personnel but those from Fallujah residents. A rain of fire descended on the city. People who were exposed to those multicolored substance began to burn. We found people with bizarre wounds-their bodies burned but their clothes intact, relates Mohamad Tareq al-Deraji, a biologist and Fallujah resident."

US forces 'used chemical weapons' during assault on city of Fallujah

Published: 08 November 2005 Independent

“Powerful new evidence emerged yesterday that the United States dropped massive quantities of white phosphorus on the Iraqi city of Fallujah during the attack on the city in November 2004, killing insurgents and civilians with the appalling burns that are the signature of this weapon.

Ever since the assault, which went unreported by any Western journalists, rumours have swirled that the Americans used chemical weapons on the city.
On 10 November last year, the Islam Online website wrote: "US troops are reportedly using chemical weapons and poisonous gas in its large-scale offensive on the Iraqi resistance bastion of Fallujah, a grim reminder of Saddam Hussein's alleged gassing of the Kurds in 1988."

The website quoted insurgent sources as saying: "The US occupation troops are gassing resistance fighters and confronting them with internationally banned chemical weapons."

In December the US government formally denied the reports, describing them as "widespread myths". "Some news accounts have claimed that US forces have used 'outlawed' phosphorus shells in Fallujah," the USinfo website said. "Phosphorus shells are not outlawed. US forces have used them very sparingly in Fallujah, for illumination purposes.
"They were fired into the air to illuminate enemy positions at night, not at enemy fighters."

But now new information has surfaced, including hideous photographs and videos and interviews with American soldiers who took part in the Fallujah attack, which provides graphic proof that phosphorus shells were widely deployed in the city as a weapon.

In a documentary to be broadcast by RAI, the Italian state broadcaster, this morning, a former American soldier who fought at Fallujah says: "I heard the order to pay attention because they were going to use white phosphorus on Fallujah. In military jargon it's known as Willy Pete.
"Phosphorus burns bodies, in fact it melts the flesh all the way down to the bone ... I saw the burned bodies of women and children. Phosphorus explodes and forms a cloud. Anyone within a radius of 150 metres is done for."

Photographs on the website of RaiTG24, the broadcaster's 24-hours news channel, www.rainews24.it, show exactly what the former soldier means. Provided by the Studies Centre of Human Rights in Fallujah, dozens of high-quality, colour close-ups show bodies of Fallujah residents, some still in their beds, whose clothes remain largely intact but whose skin has been dissolved or caramelised or turned the consistency of leather by the shells.

A biologist in Fallujah, Mohamad Tareq, interviewed for the film, says: "A rain of fire fell on the city, the people struck by this multi-coloured substance started to burn, we found people dead with strange wounds, the bodies burned but the clothes intact."
The documentary, entitled Fallujah: the Hidden Massacre, also provides what it claims is clinching evidence that incendiary bombs known as Mark 77, a new, improved form of napalm, was used in the attack on Fallujah, in breach of the UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons of 1980, which only allows its use against military targets.

Meanwhile, five US soldiers from the elite 75th Ranger Regiment have been charged with kicking and punching detainees in Iraq.
The news came as a suicide car bomber killed four American soldiers at a checkpoint south of Baghdad yesterday. “

So after accusing Saddam hussein of having chemical weapons, the only way they can think of dealing with issues in iraq is to use .... chemical weapons.

Such weapons being used on civilians is banned by the UN. I would love to hear what the apologists for this war have to say about this.

Wily Petegrenades have been standard issue since Vietnam. They are about the size of a soup tin with hand grenade type fring mechanism. They were issued to replace flame throwers. So why is it news now???

author by Dr. Coilín Oscar ÓhAiseadhapublication date Thu Nov 10, 2005 04:55author address Máigh Nuad, Co. Cill Daraauthor phone Report this post to the editors

When the United States invaded Iraq, the rationale was to remove a brutal dictator who had used chemical weapons of mass destruction and was supposed to have stocks of them ready for use again.

In fact, Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction. People such as Scott Ritter warned the neocon regime of this before the invasion.

Meanwhile, it is uncontested that the United States possesses enormous stocks of all kinds of brutal weapons of mass destruction, including napalm and white phosphorus.

Nothing new in that, but now we know that it is has used them.

Also, at least two US embassies attempted to deny these allegations when they arose at the end of November 2004. So what's new is that we can confirm that Ireland's de facto ally the United States has actually used chemical weapons of mass destruction in Iraq recently.

BTW, if the Danish prime minister Anders Fogh ever replies to the letter I wrote to him about this on 1 December 2004, that will also be a big news event!

A10, since you have known about these grenades for such a long time, have you done anything to protest?

Best,
Coilín.

They are
[1] common knowledge of anyone who served in the US armed forces, and have never been hidden in their use from the public or service personel. So that means "anti war"groups should have known about them for years.Suddenly it's news
[2] Are more safer to use than flame throwers, which BTW DO us Naplam as their fuel. For your info Naplam can be made by anyone.Just melt stryofoam in paint thinner, and add petrol. It is a field prepared weapon, and you do not "stockpile"it as you would shells,so I would doubt very much the veracity of your information
[3] The WP grenade is a standard weapon that was issued in former Warsaw Pact nations as well.so it is as common as muck.
[4]Your defination of a "chemical weapon" is incorrect.Chemical weapons are defined as nerve ,or incapitating agents.like CN,CS,Mustard, phosenge,Tabun,Sarin,VX.
Apart from the CS&CN gas the USA has not had since appx 1978 any development or manufacturing facillities for chemical warfare.
Why ??It is ineffective basically as an instrument of warfare,it is messy, difficult to store and stockpile and even worse to dispose of.OTOH the Russians developed and stockpiled HUGE amounts of chemical and biological weapons, and designed their tactics around it's useage.they are now and indirectly so are we paying the price for this.
[5] A WP grenade is more correctly described as an incendary/anti personel grenade. As it can also be used to detonate incendary devices.
[6]When your arse is being shot at by someone who is trying to kill you in some god awful shithole of this world. You are not going to involve yourself in ethical debates wether this grenade will kill your enemy cleaner than ramming a pointed stick into their eye.You will use whatever is to hand and bugger wether it is legal or illegal. As I doubt sharpned bamboo sticks smeared with human shit in a pit are classified as ethical weapons of war either.
7]Saddam DID have WMDs.Remember the Kurds? And no doubt a few thousand Iranians who fought in the Iran /Iraq war who were gased by Iraqui chlorine gas.No doubt you will blame the USA for that as well. But you should look more to Europe for those who sold him the equiment, contray to export bans, of the UN suported by the US and the Soviet Union namely the French and Germans. The French sold the chemicals the Germans the manufacturing plants.
8]I do not agree with your world view on this matter, nor do I subscribe to sensationalist journalim of the pro or anti war type.Nor do I belive in simplified worldviews of the "blame America for everything."As much as I dont belive in appeasing every fanatical religious zealot[s] of any colour who is intent on enforcing their medival and totally alien views on our way of life.As much as I dont belive in America first.Or enforcing our views on some bunch of primitives on the other side of the world either.
9] Not intrested in anti American crusades in the name of "peace"

Hope that explains as to why I wont be too botherd protesting about WP grenades.
