Where is Enda??

category mayo | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Saturday October 01, 2005 21:43author by Interested Report this post to the editors

He sent Durkan instead

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny turned down an invitation to join the protest march.

His party colleague Bernard Durkan, Mayo TD, took to the stage but was roundly booed and jeered by the crowd.

Mr Durkan claimed his party leader had stood by the Rossport Five over the last three months, but his words were drowned out by the noisy protesters.
Have Durkan and Kenny no shame?
Have Durkan and Kenny no shame?

Don't you just wonder how Rabbite and Kenny could just abandon their countymen?

But this was what it was all about.
But this was what it was all about.

The Rossport campaign was turned into an anti FG protest which was a shame. having followed the news closely at the time it was clear that FG handled the situation v well.Kenny acted as a statesman throughout, using parliament efficiently to improve the men's plight. Sure he wasn't out like others claiming undue credit to shore up support.

Fair play Enda you showed yourself to be the national leader Ireland needs so badly.

Does anyone know if Mary Harney is still being a "thorn in the side of the government" as she promised she would be if she was elected prior to the last election?

What crap you talk. Enda Kenny is an absolute disgrace and he is an embarassment to Irish people everywhere. When Enda speaks and what he says is entirely dependent on what he thinks will win him votes, that is hardly speaking your mind. Fine Gael are a farce anyway. Don't expect Enda Kenny to be taoiseach expect Bertie again this time with Labour cosying up to them.

You should be proud to have a potential taoiseach like him in your county especially one who is so genuine, unpretentious and never shys away from speaking his mind.

Don't make claims that enda kenny is indifferent to human suffering as far as i know he is constantly raising money for charities and does alot of work for suicide prevention which is more than Bertie Aherne does who drinks points of bass in his home town for his spare time .After all a party member showed up on his behalf. And for god's sake will you fools in the west of ireland realise that extracting the natural gas is very important for this country and stop whinning about what can only be described as progression. And also sinn fein are incredibly opportunistic and try to exploit every populist situation to it's fullest. you should open your eyes and be wary of that fact.

Hurray!!! The men are out and back with their families and communities. Enda Kenny still doesn't know what he is at and has been a disgrace. As far as I know, he wasn't invited but his party collegue Michael Ring, who is a supporter of Shell to Sea, was. Michael Ring has not been touting the party line - which seems to be keep talking and no one will know that we are doing nothing - so Enda thought he could send someone else in his place... he was sadly mistaken.

How dare Durkin stand up there and try and say that it was Endas initiatives that had led to the release of the 5? How dare Durkin use the names of Enda Kenny and Michael Ring in the same sentence as if they had worked together in this? We will NOT forget this Enda. For once, I am looking forward to the election door to door campaign. The kettle will be constantly on the boil.

Saturday was a huge day of celebration with people from all walks to life out to show their support. The photos are great!

I saw the five on Pat Kenny's show on Friday night and was delighted at the way they stood up for the Cloverhill remand prisoners. Kenny was trying to pitch the show along the lines of " here were five good men locked up with a bunch of savages ".
He used the expression "ne'er do wells " instead of savages ,but the meaning -reinforced with a smirk/ sneer - was clear. One of the five pulled him up on it - put that sleeveen kenny right in his place.
Fair play to you lads.
