Hamas have had a re-think

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Sunday September 25, 2005 23:05author by mark Report this post to the editors

Hamas have just instructed all their militants to return to the pre-Israeli withdrawl from the Gaza strip unofficial ceasefire and not fire any more Qassam rockets at Israel.

"The movement declares an end to its operations from the Gaza Strip against the Israeli occupation, which came ... in response to the assaults by the enemy," Hamas's leader, Mahmoud al-Zahar in Gaza said. The assaults referred to were the killing of Islamic Jihad leaders in the last 3 days.

He added ""Hamas's interest to protect the Palestinian people from the oppression of the Zionists and to preserve the atmosphere of celebrations at the defeat of the occupation".

The surprise news comes after a leading Hamas militant and other member were killed in Isreali airforce attack ons Gaza.

A Hamas in the refugee camp of Jabaliya, on Friday saw a carbomb exploded killing 10 of whom 2 were children and injuring some 85 others of whom 20 are in critical condition.

The bomb in a jeep detonated in the Hamas rally of over a thousand at the moment Ismaïl Haniyeh
a leading Hamas member took the stand to revindicate his movement's belief that the withdrawl of the IDF this summer resulted from sustained attacks by Hamas on Israeli settlements, towns and military positions.

Military exchanges between Palestinian and Israelis in the last 70 hours have seen a death-toll approaching 20 and the president of the palestinian authority Mahmoud Abbas appeal to the USA to intervene.

Islamic jihad for their part through spokesperson Mohamed al Hindi have insisted that the IDF airforce attack which killed one of their leaders Mohamed Jalil in a rocket attack which left a 6 meter crater will not deter the group from future attacks.

The recent trouble began after clashes between Islamic jihad and the IDF this last week.

the HQ of the group Islamic Jihad are in Syria, Mohammed Khalil another leader of the group was killed by IDF helicopter attack on the mercedes chrysler benz car he was travelling in.

This was the fourth time Israel has attempted to kill Mr Khalil.

Both Israel and the Palestinian authority will hold elections in 2006, which extremists in both "potential democratic neighbours" posed to contest fiercely.

Well, how many of you would like to see their 1st-6th graders have to run, in the middle of a math lesson, or during recess, to the nearest cement shelter , up to 7 times a day, while at school???? And if there is no shelter within 15 seconds of running, then the children have been trained to crouch down, wherever they are and cover their heads with their hands. This is a daily occurance for pupils at kassam- range schools. And even if one's chance is small to get killed or injured by a kassam, the risk is there and our babies are like ducks in a shooting arena. And by the way,
If there is no danger, then why bother shooting them???

The truth is when you see innocent children run for their lives on a daily basis-

the results are technically out yet.
Those who voted had basically two choices-
Fatah or Hamas.
The reasons for their votes will pretty much depend on what their vision of the past & future means.

Its the first local poll since the withdrawl after 38 years from Gaza (the third of a phase) in which 1000 local representatives get picked.

Polls gave Hamas about 30%, suggesting gains when it takes part in January 25 - 2006 parliamentary elections. Hamas boycotted the only previous legislative vote in 1996 in protest at interim peace accords with Israel. Some people vote for Hamas because of the missiles. Its that simple. Others vote for them because they aren't corrupt in the same way that most other options are. (perhaps this is because their bank accounts in far off places are frozen). & many appreciate their charity schools.

The first exit polls suggest Fatah have won.

"Of the 104 local councils up for grabs in the occupied West Bank, Fatah won control of 61 compared with 28 for Hamas and 15 for other factions" :- Jamal al-Shobaki, head of the Higher Commission for Local Elections.

turnout was around 81%

*******
now @ this stage if you don't know many generations of people in the two "potential democratic neighbours" hate each other to the point of bloody wanton murder, you're not watching enough TV. & if you think this needs to be explained to other readers of indymedia you don't appreciate the potential of the site enough.

Someday these people will live in peace.
& when they do, they'll share water.
like I keep saying.

Saleem = Shalom = H2o

so - I listed the attacks.
then you come back with "Had any of your cities suffered day after day rockets, and than 30 in one night - AFTER the withdraw - wouldn't you act?
Or the whole thing is because you hate to see Jews on the other side of the gun?" Sorry to quote your whole comment, but its like this-

You made your point Gordi in your first comment.
It was followed by factual information which show quite clearly that the majority of victims of attacks in the Levant are palestinian. if you die in an attack your are 7 times more likely to be palestinian. Terror is unleashed on both sides.

Can't you do better?

>Woman walking with fiance murdered.

Hamas has begun operating a “vice and virtue commando” in the Gaza Strip to safeguard Islamic values..

The new force, called the Anti-Corruption Unit, is believed to be behind the gruesome murder over the weekend of Yusra al-Azzami, a 22-year-old university student from the northern Gaza Strip. Her “crime” was that she was seen in public with her fiance.

Although “honor killings” are not a new phenomenon in Palestinian society, the perpetrators were almost always relatives of the victims. But this is the first time that one of the Palestinian groups has openly acted against a woman suspected of “immoral behavior.”

Hamas’s “morality” patrolmen first spotted the young couple strolling along the beach in Gaza City, together with Azzami’s younger sister. After enjoying the spectacular sunset over the sea, they got into the future husband’s car and started driving towards Azzami’s home.

According to eyewitness accounts, five masked gunmen who were in another car gave chase, opening fire at Azzami, who was sitting in the front seat next to her fiance. She died instantly.

The fiance and sister were later brutally beaten and moderately injured by the attackers.

The incident took place at a busy intersection in Gaza City. What happened immediately afterwards left many passersby traumatized.

The assailants dragged the young woman’s body out of the car, pouncing upon it mercilessly with clubs and iron bars.

“It was the most horrific crime I’ve seen in my life,” said a university student who witnessed the attack. “What they did to the body while it was lying on the ground was barbaric. This does not represent Islam.” The student, who asked not to be named, said he and several other people at the scene were too afraid to interfere. “We waited until the gunmen left the area before we called the police and an ambulance,” he added.

This year has seen the fewest terror attacks and the fewest fatalities, on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides, since the second (al aqsa) ntifada began five years ago, on September 29, 2000.

Since September 29, 2004,
425 Palestinians have been killed in the intifada, an average of 35 a month.
In that time, 56 Israelis and foreigners have been killed, an average of 5 fatalities a month in a total of 3,531 attacks in Israel as well as in the West Bank and Gaza.

the "tahdiya" or truce by Hamas and others was declared in January 2005.

Of that number, (3,531) 262 attacks were perpetrated inside Israel compared to 185 between September 2003 and September 2004.

This means 3,269 attacks were made in the occuped territories.

In these five years a total of 1,061 Israelis were killed and murdered and 6,089 wounded in a total of 26,159 attacks carried out in Israel as well as in the West Bank and Gaza.

****************************

this date was published by Shin Bet, the domestic Israeli security service this week. The director of the service Yuval Diskin (appointed 2005 to suceed Avi Dichter) has been critical of his service's inability to stop "terror" in the last week but said that his agency working with the IDF have made over 80 arrests within the Israeli state relating to Hamas or Islamic Jihad activity.

As of yesterday he announced that palestinians will be allowed to cross the Rafah frontier and goto work for the first time without interrogation.

(Shin Bet or "Shabak" has been consistently accused of torture and abusing human rights in its activities, a team was sent by it at the request of the USA to Iraq in 2004)

Hamas releases Zarqawi-style CD Rom of kidnapped Israeli Sasson Nuriel before his murder.

September 27, 2005, 5:37 PM (GMT+02:00)

Nuriel is shown blindfolded, talking to his captors against the background of a large green Hamas flag. They claim that minutes before he was killed he confessed to being a Shin Beit agent against the Palestinians. They also display his driving license. Hamas-Ramallah introduces its special unit for the “release of prisoners” which it claims abducted Nuriel, father of three, aged 50, last Wednesday, Sept. 21, in Jerusalem. The late businessman lived in Pisgat Zeev in northern Jerusalem.

The CD Rom is of poor quality and appears to have been made in haste, possibly because Israeli forces were hunting for the missing man in the vicinity of their hideout.

Since last night many thousands of palestinians have been left without electricity as the offensive continues.
Both IDF artillery and IAF airstrikes are being used.
Damage is mostly infrastructural and includes bridges and roads.

The summit between Sharon and Mahmoud Abbas scheduled for October 2nd has been postponed by the palestinians - indefinitely.

Islamic Jihad are now signalling they will stop (as Hamas a few days ago) their missile attacks from northern Gaza. I wonder though will they move to "iraqi" tactics of kidnap, snuff video and murder as Hamas did.

I can not say I'm surprised by this last week, as I was very clear over the summer that I was not optimistic for the "withdrawl" as a "momentous step" for peace.

"When you make war on another nation you must be prepared for retribution.'"

Palestine + Zionists = "Israel" + dead palestinians + Palestinian refugees

Yep, and ZIonist crusaders were prepared for the retibution that thier bloodsoaked war of conquest created. And Zionist crusaders are also prepared for the retirbution that the ZIonist's continued never ending murderous theft of palestinian lands creates. but ZIonists being so prepared just showcases that thier war was a collaborative effort among themselves and thier enablers in the west.

Zionists are still 4 generations of murderous thieves even with YOUR appeasment. Zionists have never stopped stealing Palestinian lands, even as you read these words. And ZIonists have never hesitated to murder the Palestinians who resist Zionist offenses. Kelly desribes that as "being prepared". And palestinian freedom fighters are still responding to the Zionist's offenses with retribution. And ZIonists are PREPARED to make more Palestinian towns look like Nazis made Lidice look. Zionists have NO birthright of murderous theft of even 1 single rock in Palestine. And ALL 4 generations of murderous thieving ZIonist crusaders are responcible for ALL the hostilities that the ZIonist's war of conquerst created.

The arabs are begging for a cease fire now that their leadership are feeling up-close and personal the lesson for ordering the murder of Jewish children.

These arab leaders should have realized that what they had in Gaza with the Jewish exodus was a new mini arab nation and all the responsibilities that go with it. When you make war on another nation then you must be prepared for retribution.

Never again will Jews meekly allow their children to be targeted and killed. The Europeans were able to get away with it, and the arabs seem to be upset that they can not.

Its time the arabs and their leaders focus their actions on building a viable economy of their own rather than live in the poverty and corruption that so many of their brothers are content with.

Many others including Hezbollah gave financial assistance to Hamas . It isnt Hamas fault if Mossad behaved in a decidedly daft manner .

Also in Palestine, Palestinian Authority Interior Ministry spokesman Tawfiq Abu Khoussa has suffered the third attempt on his life this week, after unknown gunmen fired shots at his house Sunday evening, Abu Khoussa had dismissed Hamas accounts of the car bomb of Friday last saying that explosives had been mishandled rather than an attack made by a third party.

______________________________________

meanwhile, prime minister Sharon has walked out of a tense meeting of his party Likud, amidst rumours that the sound system had been sabotaged by rivals after his second attempt to speak to a council meeting of Likud sunday evening ahead of a crucial vote on a motion by Benjamin Netanyahu to bring the primary selection forward to November and thus precipitate a leadership challenge. Israeli police have said no signs of sabotage were found. Netanyahu served as finance minister till early August when he resigned in protest at the Israeli pull-out from Gaza after 38 years occupation.

He had been thought lucky by some to escape an alledged assasination attempt by known Islamic extremists whilst on a visit to London on the 7th of July this year when his schedule was adjusted accordingly and he stayed in his hotel.

Netanyahu is a former prime minster of the Israel he was/is the only such to be have been born in the state. Born in Tel Aviv October 21, 1949 {the anniversary of trafalgar] his nickname is Bibi.
He served along with his brothers as a soldier and was attached to the Sayeret Matkal special military unit which combined elite forces with the "aman" IDF intelligence wing. He was the first directly elected prime minister in 1996 and his success was seen as a direct result to a wave of palestinian attacks which further undermined confidence in Shimon Peres who had succeeded yitshak Rabin of Israel's Labour's party and had been killed by an Israeli rightwing Extremist.

Netanyahu has challenged Sharon before and failed, yet is seen as a likely candidate to succeed him, and must hold together ahead of elections in 2006 the Likud party which has become increasingly and bitterly divided over the withdrawl from Gaza and the "jewish state / zionist state / Israeli state" question.

His last speech made to explain his letter of resignation asserted that in the future the port of Gaza would be used to launch terrorist attacks on Israel, despite the fact that the port was proposed under his premiership.

The "failing" of the Sharon's microphone on Sunday 24th of September is the moment many will come to see as the final launch of his ambition.
