The Sunday Papers

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Sunday March 27, 2005 17:11author by iosaf mac diarmada Report this post to the editors

"being an occassional epistle to the Eirinns from Iosaf in Barcelona on our common campaign lines"

Some considerations on "life", "race", and "small minority interests".

and the painfully slow progress to a pluri-cultural Irish society.

Race -

Minister Mc Dowell "big swinging mickey" really doesn't know when to keep quiet. He has warned of "polarisation" of the Irish political scene, by a "small but voiceful minority". Yes indeed most were junior to leaving certificate students and still have a bit of growing to do.

He has declared that Ireland (his Ireland) considers Holland, Austria and Denmark to be reasonably enlightened, in regard to race laws.

Great isn't it?

Big Swinging Mickey thinks the three states of the European Union with highly evolved racist and extreme right party organisations are comparable to Ireland. Indeed like Ireland, the small but voiceful extreme right parties of those states are or have been party to the legislature in the last four years. Like Ireland these three countries have suffered high profile murders and attacks on ethnic minorities. The Minister knows he is unpopular, he's supposed to be, but the real depth of how ridiculous he is, and out of step with the next generation of "little Irish people" has not yet made it through the post office. He made small reference to "how difficult on a personal level" these decisions are for him. Well if you can't stand the heat Minister ;- leave the kitchen.

If you agree with me that the good governance of ireland, ought be a concern to all generations and all socio-economic classes and all political traditions, then you probably agree that the PDs have served their time in the legislature. They'd make a wonderful opposition, always happy to bark nonsense masked as "liberalism" in the mould of the Austrian "liberal party" the Danish "progressive party" the Dutch "neo-nazis".
You can do your bit by sending big swinging mickey mc dowell a postcard once a week. "Size doesn't matter" when you have the moral highground, and the junior cert have that.

Life :-

The primate of the RC church in the UK has compared the abortion practise there to eugenics.
& it might surprise you to know, that thought coming from very different ethical and rights based assessments, a lot of people in the very broadband alliance of what is sometimes called "global justice" or "alternativism" or "pacifism" agree in the most general principles with him without condoning the absolutist position he holds.

A generation of rule by localised and regional concerned politicians such as Mc Dowell and Harney have given us small pockets of unenduring and inequitable wealth in the first world based on "services" provided in the exploitation of others in teh name of "free trade", which exacerbates wholescale death in the third world which operates completely different systems of property, trade, investment, capital, governance.

For every child born to "middle income" parents who can afford a mortgage, school fees, playstation and change of clothes every month, uncalculable others don't make it "past go".

I do not wish to enter the Aquinine ensoulment debate, or further stoke "the right to choose" versus "the right to life" debate, I wish to ask, is it desirable that our future society be so twistedly bred, that the most fertile never have off-spring
and the most equitous do? It is a perversion of life and the agenda of the morally blind to build societies where the weakest socio-economic classes are not given the state and social assistance they need to bear families, and that the vast majority of children born on this Earth go without adecquate food, water or vaccines.

& at the same time, the small voiceful minorities of governance in the West, the little parties and men and women of little minds who like so much to twist the words "liberal", "progressive", "democrat" actively encourage scientific and capitalist high risk speculation in biotech, life sciences, fertility assistance. Ideas which are founded not in Nazi-ism as the RC cardinal of Britain today mistakenly wrote, but in the eugenic theory and practise of capitalists in North america and Sweden at the turn of the century.

The final nemesis of the Nietschean nomenclature beckons.

the final ending of all those "phi" will not be mutants, or autistics, or poor kids, or magdalenes, or drug users, it won't even be a gattica, it will be
the most mediocre slave class ever.

Through cultural understanding may we move through the labyrinth of manipulation. So be you "little" or "grown up", read some books-

In these last weeks, I've asked you to read
"The Handmaid's tale" by Margaret Attwood whilst considering the hypocritical abuse of the "life" issue by Bush's regime and the post-feminist horror of the emergence of "Gilead" :-
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=69057
I've also asked you to consider the roles of two chess players in global political opinion -
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=69096
I urge you to read "Brave New World" by Huxley, and pay attention to the role of "soma" (identified by Huxley in his "brave new world revisted" as probably best suiting a SSRI substance), the significance of "iceland", the consequences of eugenic social engineering which was born in the capitalist practise of Henry Ford.

Many of us have mixed opinions on Sinn Fein, and through the years the role they have played in the cessation of armed struggle nationalism in Ireland, and the role they must continue to play.
Polarisation of Irish politics, means painting them "yet again" into corner, which from afar seems to have more to do with the electioneering interests of the FF&PD block than in any real attempt to offer justice. This is their weekend. Make no mistake over a hundred thousand voters in the majority Irish state on the island of Ireland belong to the Irish republican tradition which has carried the various organisations of which SF is the most important through the XX century in Ireland.

They are as essential to the good governance of the country as their equivalent traditions of ulster calvinist british unionism, as what little remains of the once noble tradition of "anglo-irish" radicalism to the often stunted and never unhampered children of TB, 1913, the mother & child Act, "the Irish left and labour / socialist tradition" and the stream of ethicial consistency which is the faith based religious groupings support of pacifism, equality and justice as articulated by some of the RC church in Ireland.

And as we all deal with the local, regional and trans-national consequences of the newly globalised world of greed, avarice and corruption which pretends even to twist the most basic concepts of our civilisation we must never underestimate the role to be played by the ecologists and enviromentalists of the greens.

I left you postcard images last weekend for our memorial of the campaign against the war on Iraq. It is vital you all realise that the campaign which first showed in such dramatic numbers or global alliance in pacifism, neither ended nor began there. Never lose heart because the war was declared, it would have been a mistake to think we were at that stage capable of "stopping" that war, but equally understand we have "stopped" others.
These images show in a small way the breadth of alliance in which you find yourselves.
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=69039
and from the archives of "the sunday papers" (its been over two years now of occassional sunday writing here's the images that popped up-
http://www.indymedia.ie/gallery.php?search_text=sunday+papers
Never allow any regional professional politician a moment's broadcast time to undermine the strength, conviction and communality of purpose of the global movement to which you belong. You dear attentive reader are one of millions. And whichever political / cultural "colour" you wear, never forget the "rainbow" represented by the semiotic game "@€$%*+.:." unites all of us against the common enemy. "Know your enemy"

The enemy is War.

War on the weak, war on the poor, war on the environment, war waged for profit and agrandisment, war on the letters and numbers which are "Creation / our amazingly anomolous matrix of cuase and effect evolution"
& always it seems calling on the name of the God of the Shopping Mall or some "local majority"

- for He is a most convenient God of progressive laws, soundbytes, fossil fuels, and seeds that offer high yield profits yet maketh the bees honeyless and sings democracy on majority non-participation.
