the game of kings.

I'm a chess fan, its been two years since I left a comment on the Almuajaha "iraqi witness" Baghdad independent media site which I'm quite proud of -

"Do not play chess unless you see checkmate".

So I thought to share with you news of two Chess Grand Masters who are in the news at this time for well doing and saying stuff on the dirty game of knaves which is politics.
supercomputers are colour blind you know.
supercomputers are colour blind you know.

One is American Bobby Fischer is in the news for finally getting a visa to live in Iceland.
He's been "hiding" in Japan and then "held" in Japan who despite all the pressure, just didn't give in and say "we are closer to San Francisco" than Saigon and have agreed to send him to Iceland (the country of his choice).
Iceland is north west of Ireland, the people look like Björk and come to Ireland to avail of cheap christmas stuff in the Stephens Green centre every year. Iceland has a bit of a reputation for being "racist" on account of it not having a lot of "black people". nd accordingly it has decided to "stay out of" the European Union (which takes racism very seriously).

Ireland however can't afford to stay out of the EU.

Mr Fischer is very odd, he's wanted by the FBI, by the NSA and by the CIA for being -

an ardent supporter of Al Qaeda.
not paying tax.
being virulently anti-semitic (jewish type semitic)

links on him-
http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/050323/w032308.html

http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1444253,00.html

The other Chess Grand Master I want to tell you about is Garry Kasparov, he's really cool, he got paid for playing supercomputers, winning several games against IBM's Deep Blue in the last years but losing the fifth.
This certainly made him interesting to the NSA and
to be frank "me".

Kasparov came to Spain to play his last tournament (where I live) (which he won) and talk about politics and made official his announcement to retire from Chess and amidst expressing his opposition to the war on Iraq (remember it was global oppose war day) reiterated his intention to run against Mr Putin.
on March 11
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4338719.stm

This is not a surprise .:.
= please don't be surprised.

For Kasparov had given an interview to the BBC on this very subject on January 11-

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4163439.stm

Kasparov leads a party of "liberals" who have run against Putin before, and are finding a lot of ground amongst the emigré community who thought to invest their nest eggs (not fabergé) in Yukos. Which of course Mr Putin sold.- And Mr bush bought. and well it gets sticky...

here's the link to the game that Kasparov lost to the supercomputer "deep blue" on May 11 (lots of eleven eh?) 1997. "a fascinating game" indeed.

http://www.research.ibm.com/deepblue/

and here's the latest on him-

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/20/nyregion/20chess.html
http://news.ft.com/cms/s/e9be41a8-97e1-11d9-912c-00000e2511c8.htm0l
and for fans a look at one of the forgotten games with Karpov in 1985
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2273

Kasparov doesn't support Al Qaeda.
Kasparov isn't anti-semite either.

There aren't many people alive who play supercomputers, (and even fewer who win)
and so their minds are certainly worth a ponder.

=
ponder-.
do get into chess. play a game. be european. buy a milky coffee, date someone with good skin, and play a game in a park. don't worry if you lose. you'll learn from it.

Fischer is great and is ahead his times, and deserves to be free and do what he wants in life. Kasparov, on the other hand, wrecked the chess world when he left the FIDE years ago, and we all hope he won't wreck the whole world if he stupidly goes into politics, publicly saying he wants to improve Russia, but really just trying to get rich.

that black and white aren't always so black and white.
the USA's ABC told us that Grand Master Kasparov was "man of the week" for March 19th.
And tell us every chance/community chest they get that Grand Master Fischer is evil, a traitor to his country and a renegade of justice.

For this you might need a "split level" chess board.

Write a letter to the minister of justice, (a man who knows his black from his white) who enjoys a "split level" holiday home, "free of tax" (fischer style) on the shores of a lake in Roscommon and ask him...
"which grand master is better in the moral stakes- Fischer or Kasparov?"
then ask him (it will only cost you a few cents of an euro) thusly-
"Rabbi, Big Swinging Mickey, Minister for Justice of Eire, whose jurisdiction ends at protestant Ulster, is it right to ask the rank and file gardaí to deport schoolchildren whilst wearing their uniforms, and thus setting themselves up for years of "yous a racist abuse from the childer" whilst you're on holliers and not even in the second split level home on the lake?"
: then ask him how much is 200kg of cannabis worth at street level.
= write your postcards kids. you'll feel good about it, knowing @ least his post people have to deal with it and will be taking the piss out of him all day.
"power to the junior cert!"

The Irish Chess Union was founded in 1912 and continues to this day to be the governing body of chess in Ireland. This is the story of its first two Championships, seen principally from the perspective of the winner on both occasions, John O’Hanlon. He won nine titles in total, the last in 1940, and played in every championship, except the one in 1927, from 1913 to 1956. On his last appearance he was eighty years old. The First Irish Chess Union Championship 1913 This was not the first time there had been a competition for the title of Irish chess Champion. During the period 1865 to 1893 a number of different organisations had organised Irish Championships. The title-holder after the last of those competitions was J. A. Porterfield Rynd and the Irish Chess Union recognised him as the reigning champion and as such he was eligible to compete in the first ICU Championship together with the champions of the four provinces.
O’Hanlon was the champion of Ulster, a title he had had held since 1902. He played regularly in England where he was able to play against a higher overall standard of opposition than he could encounter locally. This had brought him into contact with the German master (but resident in England for many years) George Shories [calculated as having a 5-year best average rating of 2430 by Arpad E. Elo in his book The Rating of Chessplayers, Past and Present, Batsford 1978] and they became friends. Towards the end of 1912 they played a series of 19 friendly games while Shories was on a visit to the North of Ireland. O’Hanlon won 7, drew 1 and lost 11 of that series, which was according to the News-Letter chess columnist “a very creditable record against such an opponent.” These encounters were ideal preparation for the Ulster champion ahead of his attempt to acquire the Irish championship.

great stuff.

Chess is a wonderful way to teach kids about logic, memory and strategy.

Gonzaga College (the minister for justice's old school hold a yearly chess tournament for school kids, it would be nice to see a new irish citizen wipe the floor next year wouldn't it? I'm sure RAR can find one and cover the entry charge)

I didnt read all the threads, but Fischer fell into dis-favour in the US for playing a chess game in Jugoslavia during the US aggression there. It's got nothing to do with al queda or any of that nonsense, isn't he in fact jewish?

He openly defied a US boycott on it's sporting people going to play in Jugoslavia.

Does this sound familiar? Sport? Boycott? Politics?

Can we stop the Ireland football team returning from Israel - pack them off to Iceland?

Sorry to be pedantic Iosaif - but Black and White are not strictly "Colours" - they are monochromatics.

The saga of Bobby Fischer has ended where all all sagas should end, in Iceland. While the terrible rumor that the neocons wanted him to make his blood into matzos for Passover is undoubtedly a lie created by the Russian secret service, it is difficult to come up with a rational reason for the bizarre efforts of the American government to bring Fischer to justice for breaking an obscure American edict issued fifteen years ago, for playing a freakin' chess game, when no American administration had apparently cared about it in the interim. Fischer's real crime was of course making some outspoken, if true, statements in the wake of September 11 about the United States and Israel and their unholy alliance against Islam.

The Japanese have behaved abominably in the whole affair, acting as the stooges of the worst of the American neocons in efforts to free Jenkins by serving up Fischer. Not only did the Japanese treat one of the greatest chess players of all time like a diplomatic football, they imprisoned him like a common criminal, and treated him with brutality. In the end, they were thwarted by Fischer's superior strategy. They were forced into claiming that they were only strictly following their own legal procedures, and were not just the American stooges they appeared to be. They were then forced to admit they would have to return Fischer to any country he was a citizen of, no doubt believing that no country would have the courage to issue citizenship to Fischer. Due to the heroic efforts of Iceland - by the way, have you ever heard anything bad said about Iceland? - in granting citizenship to Fischer in the face of tremendous American pressure, the Japanese were finally forced, in order to 'save face' (not that they have any left to save), to do the right thing they should have done in the first place and send him somewhere other than the United States.

Bobby Fischer's friend John Bosnitch said:

"Bobby won his freedom by appealing to the independent people of Iceland to remember and protect an old friend. The Icelanders have responded in a manner that to them is merely normal but which to the rest of the world constitutes nothing less than outstanding bravery."

Fischer, continuing his tradition of honesty, said on the plane to his new home (all his chess records should be amended to note they were obtained by a citizen of Iceland):

"The United States is an illegitimate country . . . just like the bandit state of Israel - the Jews have no right to be there, it belongs to the Palestinians. That country, the United States, belongs to the red man, the American Indian . . . It's actually a shame to be a so-called American because everybody living there is . . . an invader."

(that's called balance)
Fischer and Kasparov have never directly played a game.
but the chess world has asked which one deserves the higher ranking-
http://www.avlerchess.com/chess-misc/Lev_Khariton_KasparovFischer_and_Geography_185859.html
And Kasparov did write on Fischer "my great predeccesors"

In the period between 1955 and 1972 Fischer, more or less single-handedly, took on the might of the Soviet Chess Empire, and won. During this time Fischer scored astonishing successes the like of which had not been seen before. These included 11/11 in the 1963/64 US Championship and match victories (en route to the World Championship) by the score of 6-0 against two of the strongest players in the world, Mark Taimanov and Bent Larsen. The climax of Fischer's campaign was his unforgettable match win in Reykjavik in 1972 against Boris Spassky.

Fischer is almost equally well-known for his temperamental behaviour away from the board, as his play on it. He made extreme demands of all those around him including tournament organisers. When these demands were not met he often refused to play. The 1972 match against Spassky required the intervention of no less than Henry Kissinger to smooth things over. In 1975 when he was due to defend his title against Anatoly Karpov, Fischer was completely unable to agree terms with FIDE (the World Chess Federation) and was defaulted. After this he more or less gave up chess, playing only once, a 'return' match against Spassky in 1992.

In this book, a must for all serious chessplayers, Kasparov analyses deeply Fischer's greatest games and assesses the legacy of this great American genius.

many people have noticed that Mr Fischer has a jewish name, and indeed he does. Born in Illinois he went to Brooklyn the jewish area of New York where he grew up in the immediate post war period. And in contrast Mr Kasparov has a russian name despite being born a Georgian.

The choice of Iceland, would seem fitting for someone who won the best game in chess ever there, and of course he lived in Japan coz his wife is japanese.

Not many people will remember that Kasparov was himself the subject of an attempt by the state of Israel to limit his play-
http://www.globes.co.il/serveen/globes/docview.asp?did=650014&fid=942

And the Israelis programmed "deep junior" to play him in 2003. (He stalemated) the supercomputer went into a 25 minute pause at one stage in the first game.

Oh well. Who would have stayed up all night to see that news coming in? Just in case you've missed it, the Russian thing is really interesting. Huge massive sprawling country some say the biggest in the world - went from being an autocracy to a totalitarian state to an oligarchy to a mafiaocracy (i coined that word) to a securocracy.

Now which would you prefer to live in?

Well Kasparov left himself unguarded out in the middle of the board there, coz you know the Russians aren't thick. & oh shit I've to bring you all through it step by step....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6554989.stm
OK. Lots of people don't like Putin. BUT. Lots of people really don't like what comes instead. Even if it does get dosed with the old Madame Curie Polonium or know exactly where the sunk Soviet submarine is in the Adriatic, and what really was going on with the Kursk, how much the Moonbase is going to cost over the next 70 years and will it come in on time or late & last but not least - very few people like Bereszovsky.

I don't. & nor do we.
no we don't.

That's why "The Guardian" gave him an interview and tricked him into admitting on record he was fomenting a revolution this week. http://www.guardian.co.uk/frontpage/story/0,,2057150,00....html

It's like this - horses for courses. Some people do Russian revolutions & other people don't.
We've all got it sorted & agreed long ago. For krusties sake Putin is a hard tough nut but at least he has the grace to bring his dog for a walk with Blair and speak to Ratzinger in German. Oh yep. Now don't get all fretful - the world is saved again. Told you a million billion times - you don't need people like Kasparov & Bereszovsky ruling you or Chechnya & you know it too.

There are now conflicting reports from the interfax agency that he has been released & that he's still in custody. Oh well. That will teach him. People are saying it's all breach of human rights. Just like Mayo and beating Irish people to death in cells. I'm going out now to do a few things so I'll just remind you that you don't need people like yer man or his billionaire mate ruling you or thinking what is best for you. & while I'm at it, you don't need Irish people who thought it a good idea to cosy up to them over the years.
Russia is evolving - democracy is emergent in every society. But the oligarchs and criminals who seemed so slick and rascal like to many in the west did nothing more than rape their country and sell their youth into prostitution. You don't really find many Russians eating Sushi in the Unicorn restaurant do you?

oh and of course http://www.indymedia.ru
via which you'll find links to the sort of people who can do russian revolutions & more importantly do them every week just like you do. Perhaps because they mostly didn't get to buy everything dirt cheap & sell everyone else cheaper nor get refugee status nor buy a football club nor be called a "magnate". You've never had "magnates" in Ireland just sleezey corrupt fkers who mostly got out of their league really quickly. But still at least one of them would be tempted to welcome Borat off the plane this afternoon. jee jee jee. what I see is beyond your imagination ((( I hope that last line read in a sinister way - that was the effect I was looking for.)))

Don't we?

Of course we do, we know lots of things they don't. We know how to survive on precarity wages and how to survive without them (that's precarity). We know how to wait for Health Care. We know how to clean our fingernails & check for cryptosporidium. We know how leaders are made because we (I'm talking to my fellow anarchists and brothers here) do not accept leaders.

It was thus fascinating for me to see which European & US commercial media newsgroups and TV channels picked up on the story which I laid out for you on March 23rd 2005 and has mostly thus far taken place on the morning of April 14th in Moscow or 2 comments up the page written in Barcelona for your Irish cyber delight. The right wing press were the most interested in portraying Kasparov's leadership but getting how the ((sinister)) point had been made disagreed on how long Kasparov was banged up. The right wing Figaro in France had him in the clutches of the cops for 10 hours released on 1000 roubles which they'd give you 30euros for. Whereas the right wing El Mundo in Spain thought he got out in 5 hours and they'd give you 40euros for a grand of roubles. The BBC avoided the whole euro thing coz they're anglosaxon imperialists and would offer you 40 US dollars http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6554989.stm or a score of sterling (£20).
So
Mr Gary Kasparov got photographed from 3 angles as he was brought to the van which just goes to show the Moscow police weren't as rough as an Irish Garda can be on the curious visual media type. & after being brought quickly to court (at the exact time of the last comment on this page) he was released for the average price of a few lines of cocaine or a bit of 3rd grade Moroccan hashish. Might I remind you that's a lot of money for a Russian but by now you know Mr Kasparov is doing alright on the readies front.

I'm not going to write "thus are leaders cast and leadership proven" because I only say that about that Basques regardless of whether they call thembselves HB, ASB, ANV or Tierra Lluire. Because to be quite honest most Russians didn't give a bollox. RTE picked up on it (as a right wing news organisation) quite late in the day adding it to their site just after 10pm Roscommon holiday chalet time. And to be quite technical just for one important little phrase they cogged their whole report from the Reuters wire of mid-afternoon yesterday. http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0414/Russia.html

What was the important little phrase oh wise and benovelent and very kind to do this on an amateur basis Ipsiphi Iosaf Mac Diarmada & all your anagrams?

:::: oh you flatter me.
I will not under any circumstance risk infringing the copyright of RTE so I'll just paraphrase it.
Actually I won't bother - I'll just qoute myself - "We Don't Like Berezovsky".

You see the tiny and utterly irrelevant "other Russia" party who are ignored by everyone except the right wing press of Europe and the USA who only pick up the Georgian Kasparov have now distanced themselves from Berezovsky.

a splendid day's work has been done - ta very much Gary

Mr Berezovsky resisted the temptation to fly to an Irish airport in the mid afternoon and was reported to have completely restructured his call for bloody revolution in a sort of mature recollection lapsus mis-speech way so as to stop the Brits expelling him by Sunday evening on the flight to Moscow to face court on variety of charges. I bet he's glad those BA flights can get a bit radioactive and the someone (him) ripped off the Aeroflot alternatives so you wouldn't really trust their wings or landing gear. hmmmmmmm- Ask half the late important people of Macedonia and Ukraine who unfortuanately crashed wiping out their government expertise within the last decade. ooooooooooooo but I bore you.

So to justify my 3rd pinging comment to one of my older mostly ignored works on this website which was meant only to encourage kiddies of high melanin content newly arrived in Eire to beat the crap out of the Gonzaga lot at the annual schools chess championship (see comments above for details) I'll just "tie this in" to another story which will seem strangely familiar to you.

But I won't be risking the 9mm to the nape of my neck. Oh no. Figaro did it for me. http://www.lefigaro.fr/international/20070414.FIG000000....html

You see yer man the KGB / FSB traitor who died on the 23rd of November last in London as the second person in history to suffer fatal Polonium ingestion had originally (when a good boy) been supposed to take out (kill)(not just put in a coma) Mr Berezovski in 1996.

Doesn't the plot thicken? I'm glad the right wing told you & not me. Here's the best article on our newswire filled with comments which told you about Litvinenko and how Polonium is used by the Tobacco industry. http://www.indymedia.ie/article/79915 In that article you'll find the name of another "magnate" (don't worry about them now we've all agreed we don't like them) who claimed he almost got poisoned in a Dublin restaurant. I can't tell you if it was the Unicorn restaurant where Mc Dowell smooched Harney had promised he wouldn't be leader of the PD's. Coz I'd be stretching the credulity.

off we go again.
we get better every time.
