so how many died then?
are their pure bred holy church of Rome descendents in gonzaga and belvedere doing their best to undo the damage done unto the heretical christians of proto-eire?
and how are the planters of offaly bearing up to the challenges of 300+ years in Ireland? Do they feel irish yet? And how about the spanish survivors of the armada, have they finally integrated?
Assuming Strongbow had 2 children, and that each descendent of Strongbow had on average 2 children each generation and that about 25 years elapsed between each generation, a quick calculation shows that Strongbow must have a few billion descendents by now.
"Ann Griffin Bernstorff, an artist working on a tapestry to commemorate Ireland's Norman heritage, has discovered what she claims is the Bushs' missing Irish link."

lovely little detail on a contemporary english chronicle writer who worked freelance for the "sun gotcha! codex" on the rí Mac Mac - "One English chronicler told how MacMurrough, recognising the features of a personal enemy poking from a pile of severed heads after a battle, snatched up the rotting flesh and tore it with his teeth in a "hideous frenzy"."
erughghg. it's like alien versus predator isn't it?
Anway enough of the pisstake, let's be absolutely clear on this, the Normans invaded Engurland and conquered it 1066 and all that, (the engurlish say they would have won you know if the norwegies hadn't been attacking them at the same time - wot did they do wrong that year eh? eh? eh?) and then the Normans married the Scottish and Irish, with a few "hideous frenzied skull munching types matchmaking along the way". In those days there was nothing more scary than the sight of a man covered in armour on the back of a massive horse coming at you full belt (30km.p.h.+) weighing more than 600 kgs and gathering quite a bit of momentum. It was the middle age equivalent of a sherman tank. So the clever amongst the rebels dug big holes in the ground. cue-
The brave O tooles and o byrnes of the hills.
(the chroniclers said they ate heads as well).
ah go on. you don't believe a word of it. We are all descended from murderers, rapists, thieves, survivors, soldiers, victims, plague heads, clever people, stupid people and of course the Rasta woman.
Bush is a German name. President George Bush senior and GW Bushs ancestors are proven to come from some part of Eastern Germany, and migrated to America somtime in the 17th centuary. There is NO firm link to Ireland with the Bush ancestory. It is a tenous and neblous if any link at all.
What is this Irish obsession with claiming any fanciful or dubious link to famous or in famous people who matter or matterd out in the real world? Do we have such an inferioity complex that we have to frantically scrabble around to find some sort of link with the past to give ourselves some fake glory?
We claim links to people like Bush, snt and jnr with TWO different locations for ancestors for father and son.
We claim links to Adolf Hitler, because his half brother from a former marrige of his dad worked in the Shelbourne hotel for 6months in 1902
We claim that Che Gureva was Irish although he was born in Argentina from fourth generation irish emigants. And the fact that he stayed one night in Hanrattys hotel in Limerick on a forced stopover from a Moscow /Cuba flight at Shannon
Most dumbest ever was a claim that the Chinese minister of Mao Chou En Lai had ancestors from Ireland!!!!!
I'm sure if there was the first alien encouner with extra terristial life the irish historians would franticlly scrabble in the dusty tomes to find a link to ireland.Or we would claim because they landed in Ireland that they were our own!!!
It is a most ludicrious, embarrasing, and very sad part of the Irish people, this insistance of finding a link with the past.
We'll never have to worry about ANY of this again.
ps Muhammed Ali was Irish too !!
I wonder ?
Also there was a British intelligence archive released last year under the 30 year rule which referred to Che Guevara as an "Irish man". They also said they believed he was dead, but he popped up at the UN to give an address a few weeks later, but hey, thats the Brits for you.
lazy lingo and verging severely on racist. Say 'British Establishment'. That's who you mean. Right?
In the part of the world Im from, in fact virtually the entire north, the term "Brits" is used to describe both the British army and the British govt. It is virtually never used as a description of the English/ British populace. It is a commonly used term that refers only to officialdom, in whatever guise.
Ordinary English people are generally referred to as simply "english people". I have no grudge against them whatsoever, and have usually found them to be very nice people.
However now that youve made me aware that not everyone is aware of the distinction, Im only too happy to oblige in the interests of clarity, and indeed harmony.
I always use the example of hanging round dundalk in the 80s with 2 friends who were children of returned irish emigrants to ingerland. They had accents and I brought both to hospitals on at least one occasion because people decided that their accents made them 'brits' and thus worthy of a hiding from groups of ignorant and frankly republican influenced youths. They wouldnt have deserved it even if they were the kids of english emigrants to ireland (not that there were many of them in el paso in the 80s)
politically aware adults may understand the shorthand for what it is but it is a dangerously simplfying use of lingo imho
will you be staying long? Sorry about the goo but we didn't know about your special dietary needs.
i talked to an engurlish woman other day, she said whole load of her brits crew are embarrassed @ the mo, and want to be welsh now, not irving trainspotting mad radge colonised by wankers scottish smackhead welsh, but rather sh'mai! cymru have we forgotten about all the nukes old beans sort of welsh-brit-engurlish. I told her i'd see what I could do, "leave it with me my love, I'll see wot i can do, must grumble, must grumble, must grumble." I gave olds becksie a go on the blower, but Vikky said he woz out doin an advert or a stint in the specials in iran, so I stayed all hush hush bout it, and now bein irish to the core my love, I thought I'd let ye know. mór ya.
the US are investing millions in developing soldiers from video gaming backgrounds. Looking at the recruit clips in OVNI again this year in "resistancias" lots of big trucks being taken out, last year in "babilonia" it was sheds warehouses and faluja.
poor kids. shopping mall to simulator to brain goo without a conscience killing machines. Goebbels and himmler would have been very proud.
yum yum.
