Israel's peace conference.

"now that I have your attention listen to what I have to say"

Barcelona's offer to host a peace conference in 2005 has been rejected by Ariel Sharon. This marks a rejection of the Sharon administration of centring peace efforts on the Barcelona process, which the EMP (The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership) is usually known by.
The EMP reflects the reality of Israel's geographical location as a state of the Mediterranean and one who trades with the EU.
It also reflects the reality of Israel's demographic origins, Isreal is a European nation, the vast majority of whom are descended from European jews. The dictatorship of Libya is not participating in the EMP.

Today Tony Blair on a visit to the region has proposed holding a conference in London in 2005.
This supports the joint US/UK strategy as announced at the Bush & Blair press conference which followed the death of Arafat at Percy hospital in Paris and his burial ceremony in Cairo.

For their part, the US adminstration through Colin Powell has signalled that it is keen to continue the work of the EMP and the good will of Europe.
The good will of Europe had previously built the airport, hospitals and farms of the occupied territories which were lost in the last years to the building of the wall, which the European court found to be illegal.

However the main source of military funding to the state of Israel is undoubtedly the USA.

Thus there are clearly two "outside interests" with different wishes and strategies.

Blair has reiterated the phrase that democracy must be established in both states. And I doubt that biometric ID cards will go down well amongst the orthodox.

"Mr Blair said: "I am not interested in just having a conference that just makes a point". There had been enough meetings and discussions on the situation in the Middle East. He stressed that ultimately it was down to Israel and Palestine to negotiate and find a solution to the problems in the region.

He [Blair] argued that "unless there is a genuine viable partner" built on democracy, a transparent economy, and measures in place to ensure security and give Israel confidence in its security "we are never going to get back into the roadmap".

As President Bush correctly said, when a young muslim and young jewish girl [of 19] are blown up together the future of both Palestine and Isreal are dying. He made that remark in reaction to a suicide bomb attack on a supermarket, the two girls looked so alike, that for a day the police thought the Israeli girl was a Palestinian.
Some thought the little boy of 14 who said "I don't want to blow up" and gave himself to the IDF was lucky, others thought a little angel had spoken in his ear and overcome the other instruction.

= you may come home now, please come home now.

Isreal under Sharon has rejected the invitation to a London conference by Rt. Hon. Tony Blair's Prime Minister of HMG, (and a fairly complex character if ever there was one)

"Speaking with the likely next Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas in the former compound of Yasser Arafat in Ramallah, the prime minister told reporters: "We have to get back to the point where the road map means something, and the conference is part of that."

The Israelis have already declined to take part in the London summit, although at a similar press conference with Mr Blair in Jerusalem today, Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, called it an "important initiative".

Mr Blair had behind the scenes talks with both Mr Sharon in the Israeli capital and later in Ramallah with Mr Abbas, where he also bowed his head in front of the grave of Arafat - although stopped short of the politically sensitive move of laying a wreath."

"Downing Street officials travelling with Mr Blair announced a guest list and title for the London summit, which - bereft of Israeli participation - will focus on the newly elected Palestinian Authority."

"The conference, now slipping from an originally mooted January to a possible date in early March, will see representation from the "quartet" of the US, Russia, the EU and UN, plus foreign ministers from Russia, Canada, South Africa, Egypt, Norway, Jordan and Tunisia, as well as representatives from the World Bank."

"It is thought that the US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice may also attend. The putative title for the conference is "The London Meeting On Strengthening the Palestinian Authority"".

and because its christmas now and not solstice here's that bit of Handel's messiah again-
which wasn't really by Handel coz he was a plagiarist and nasty type in many ways it's by Isaiah who was an unpopular writer with his own people, and got the title "prophet" afterwards.
Isaiah 40:1-3
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned. . . .

Now enough of the religion or we'll get spammed by the end of the world nutters who know nothing about pills drugs bellyaches and real life with condoms on.

Germany has agreed to sell Israel another two Dolphin-class submarines, They will join the three Dolphin –class submarines already operated by the Israeli navy, making Israel one of the premier maritime powers in the Arabian Sea.

Berlin has overcome its reluctance to the craft being fitted with nuclear cruise missiles, in the interests of a newly adopted more aggressive defense exports policy, and out of understanding that the EU’s attempts to halt Iran’s nuclear weapons program is unlikely to succeed.

Several countries have, or plan to have a powerful and permanent naval presence in the Arabian Sea. The US and British navies maintain a constant presence in the area, from its staging point at the British naval base of Diego Garcia, in the middle of the Arabian Sea.
