Mary Kelly addresses 100th RSF Ard-Fheis

category national | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Tuesday November 16, 2004 09:25author by RSF Watch Report this post to the editors

Mary Kelly addresses 100th RSF Ard-Fheis.

Mary Kelly addressed the 100th Ard-Fheis of Republican Sinn Féin on Sunday, 14th November. A delegate at the meeting wrote (verbatim):

"A special cheer went up for the message of support from the Republican prisoners in Portlaoise Jail - keep the flag flying in there; we're with ye. John McDonagh from America gave a great speech, as did Mary Kelly , who is in the news lately regarding her alleged attack on a US airplane in Shannon - fair play to ya, Mary - its a pity ya only allegedly had a hatchet ... " (Source: IRBB website).

It has not been confirmed whether Mary Kelly applauded the message from the prisoners from Portlaoise, who are all members of the Continuity IRA.

Mary is also the 2003 recipient of the "Michael Flannery Award", named after a former patron of Republican Sinn Féin.

RSF claims to be part of the Republican Movement which also encompasses the Continuity IRA. For its part, the Continuity IRA also claims to be the lawful government of Ireland. The CIRA has not been very active on the military front, it's only "spectacular" being the bombing of a Co Fermanagh hotel that was full of wedding guests.

The Ard-Fheis also saw the election of Josephine Hayden as party vice-president. Ms Hayden was convicted a number of years ago for possession of a firearm. She was arrested with five others in a van driving around Dublin.
