Other Press

category national | sci-tech | news report author Wednesday August 25, 2004 10:34author by vinnie - IMC Ireland Tech Group Report this post to the editors

The site's just been updated with a new feature called "Other Press" to replace the weekly "Web / Press / Offsite Media Updates" story.

In future if you wish to post a link and brief synopsis or snippet of articles from other sites you may now do so by selecting the "Other Press" type on the publish page. Please use this feature wisely and do not cut and paste entire articles, as they will be deleted.

"Other Press" stories will not appear on the default view of the newswire as we wish to keep the focus on original content. Instead "Other Press" stories may be viewed by selecting the filter on the newswire page or clicking on the new link on the left side bar.

In future a new mini-wire similar to events will be displayed in the left or right side bars for "Other Press" stories.

will there be a connection between "Other Press" and "Web / Press / Offsite Media Updates"? Presently it's quite easy to go back through all the updates by clicking on the link line.

if you just click on "other press" on the top left side-bar, it will bring you to all of those "other press" stories. not very many of them yet!

I guess we'd have to resection all those "Media Update" stories to be "Other Press" manually.

The idea behind "Other Press" is to reduce the editorial workload involved in resectioning all the stuff to "Other Press".

It's intended that "Other Press" contains posts from contributors that contain a link-and-summary.

Unlike previous 'other media updates' you can now comment on these other press stories - add updates to the stories etc.

and no doubt activists will at indymedia ireland central will now have more time to be proper real world activists and maybe even change a few nappies and stuff, but it will see the previous compression of other media updates which were visible as a single page of comments spread over pages and pages of newswire.

This means valuable seconds will be lost.

I dont know why you just cant leave things the way they were. You've got a real problem with the tinkering and improving and reforming things don't you!

:-) "looks lovely vinnie and crew, oh it's great code.
