Wed. June 9, 2004 STARC Armory Vigil - Poster Line
(L-R) Jeff Wiess, Tom Schmitz, Amber Woodley, Brian Terrell, Norman Searah, Renee Espeland, Lea Ann Bradford, Roger Routh, Barbara Hans, Chris Gaunt, Jane Magers and Ed Bloomer. Photo DMCW News Service

Thirteen people showed up for this weeks Wed vigil at STARC Armory. Just enough for each person to hold one of the 13 poster size photos of Iowa soldiers killed in the war in Iraq during our 30 minute silent memorial to Iowans killed in the war.

All of us were lamenting the national love fest surround the death and state funeral for Ronald Reagan. If ever there is a good example of how deep our denial and the lies that back them up form our national consciousness it can be found in this weeks media rhetoric and accolades on Ronald Reagan's presidency. Those of us who are familiar with the work of the School of Americas know better. The Reagan presidency saw the worst of human rights violations take place in Latin America - our US backed Killing Fields.

Jeff Wiess wondered out loud if Sadam Hussein and Ben Laden were going to get invites to President Reagan's funeral. It would only be fitting, since President Reagan was so helpful to them in the 1980's. If you have not already seen a more truthful summary of the Reagan presidency check out this web page from Truth Out < http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/060704A.shtml >

Please join us next Wed at STARC Armory between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Anyone needing a ride meet at the Berrigan Catholic Worker House at 713 Indiana at 3 p.m.
