Cork Grassroots Network - All Aboard!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cork activists of the Grassroots Network are on their way to Dublin The Government are running sacred of the protests that are happening in Dublin this weekend. They have overreacted to the fact that people are making a huge effort to show their opposition to the neo-liberal policies that are being foisted on us all. Cork activists of the Grassroots Network are on their way to Dublin for the major mobilisation in the capital this weekend. Announcing the official endorsement of the protests, Kevin Doyle, a spokesperson for Cork Grassroots Network, added, ‘The Government are running sacred of the protests that are happening in Dublin this weekend. They have overreacted to the fact that people are making an effort to show their opposition to the neo-liberal policies that are being foisted on us all. The Government has attempted to tarnish the protests with a violent image but the Grassroots Network is about “direct action” not violence. What we mean by “direct action” is effective protest and nothing else. Bringing out the riot police will not intimidate us.’ |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3Kevin who? Sounds fine and who knows with a mininum of work on the ground you might just sqeeze some publicity outta this in your local press. Riding on the back of sensationalist press coverage, and why not. Play them at their own game. By the way, 'direct action' as defined here is pretty vacant, isn't it?
"But afterwards we will be looking to the EU Health Ministers meeting in Cork in mid-May. This is yet another opportunity to focus attention on the undemocratic gravy train that the EU is, and we will be there to make the most of it."
Are Grassroots and Cork WSM planning direct action here too? Goin cause some trouble for them old folks? What's planned?
I believe a coalition of groups going under the name No Prescriptions For Profit are organising to protest at this meeting. Also coming will be Tommy Thompson, US secretary for health, who will probably be advising the EU on how to get a health service like in the US. (Incidently, Thompson has received backing to the tune of $75,000 over the years from a certain Phillip Morris, tobacco kingpins, should let Mickey Martin know!).
No Prescriptions For Profit will be releasing further details after the Mayday madness. Watch this space.
