Lets get real here - Press conference today with SF and Greens and ATGWU supporting forcefully the AEIP March - it is a little more complicated than you are making it out to be.
They've been making our lives miserable for too long now!
The little beardy twat might have been wrong about most things but for christ sake lads it doesn't look like he was wrong about infantile disorder.
1. The ATGWU is about the most left wing union in Ireland - its not saying much but it is.
2. Their call is for the DCTU march to be uncancelled.
3. We can't help it if they are more disposed to the AEIP types.
4. We have to show them we are serious about what we do, it might take time but ffs stop with the hair trigger replies.
The whole fiasco of the Dublin May Day March that was cancelled by the Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) on the dicktat of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) without any opposition from that former ultra radical in his day, the most militant of them all (At the time of course) Sam Nolan (DCTU Secretary) proves the case more than ever for a new Trade Union completely independent from the so-called Congress of Trade Unions that is merely another tool of the Government. That Union, the Independent Workers Union (I.W.U.) was established in Cork last Saturday, and we're not going away you know.
We're absolutely delighted that Ahern's jamboree on O'Connell Street has been cancelled, not just because it has left them with egg on their faces, but because it is now exposing the real reason for the DCTU's totall unwillingness to hold the traditional May Day March this year, namely that to use their words, they're terrified of any trouble on May Day this year, and they don't want to be associated with Anti-capitalist, Leftist, Anti-globalisation, Anarchist groups and anybody who does not fit into their narrow right wing side of the so-called Labour Party mould.
Lest anyone thinks that this is just a serious Dublin issue, this has also raised it's ugly head in Cork. The Cork Council of Trade Unions (CCTU) are also seriously considering their May Day March this year. And their excuse? Roadworks on Patrick Street!
We wish the ATGWU and all of the various Anti-capitalist, Leftist, Anti-globalisation, Anarchist groups of whatever your very diverse views the very best on your May Day mobilisations this year, and we will fully support you'se as much as we can on May Day.
Just to repeat what I've said before, these so-called socialists in the trade union movement would give shame a worse name. This is the time for working class people to take control of May Day and take it out of the hands of SIPTU etc. The I.W.U.and certain heads in the A.T.G.W.U. with rank and file workers should meet on May 2nd to plan next year's May Day! Lets once and for all start to push Fleming, O'Connor and Gerathy etc with their lackies and the like to the side.
