Poland rejects US lies about WMD

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Friday March 19, 2004 12:25author by Hilal Report this post to the editors

"We were taken for a ride"

In a further blow to the Bush/Blair "coalition of the willing", Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski said his country has been "taken for a ride" by US lies about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction.

Poland runs one of Iraqs "stabalisation zones" and has 2500 troops in occupation . The scale of the daily attacks and violence against Polish forces has seen opposition parties call for their withdrawal .

Speaking in Warsaw , President Kwasniewski ruled out withdrawing Polish troops at this stage but Warsaw is very concerned about being isolated as Madrid's new socialist government moves closer to France and Germany . With the promised withdrawal of the Spanish contingent of 1300 from the Polish zone by June 30th Warsaw may have to rethink their position . The Spanish troops are considered highly trained and effective and their leaving will make Polish forces even more vulnerable to attack .

I very much doubt that at high levels in any government, let alone the Polish one, that high ranking officials and their own intelligence agencies officials were taken for a ride. It has always been quite clear and there was plenty of circumstancial evidence that there was no WMDs. Scott Ritter had been saying so long before the war.

Nope what is going on here, is that these governments (aka the Polish one) were bullied into supporting this war behind the scenes and now that the whole fraud is out in the open as well as the public declaration by Spain that they wish to pull out, the Polish govvernment rightly sees this as an opportunity to try and start backing out of this mess. In other words the atmosphere is now conducive to saying No to the USA.

How long this will last, one does not know.

On another note, it is to be noted that a day or two ago, the Iraqi governing council invited the UN back into Iraq on June 30th, the day of the so called handover of power. It is interesting that the Spainish government said they will pull out by that date, but added the qualification that if the UN were present, then they would support them (with troops)

In other words, they have already given themselves a get-out clause for the election victory promise. It just goes to show that you may have a change of government, but they still have to toe the line of the establishment, which is ever present behind the scenes.

the ride is over. You will naturally feel a bit dizzy, and maybe need a dishprin :-)
