This page contains information on updated websites, new issues of journals and newspapers, videos available on the net etc. A similar page will be published each week.

Please add your information here. Include direct links if you have them, or details on where the print publication is available, if not.

This is not a normal newswire page and has different editorial rules. It will stay at the top of the wire no matter how many stories are published in the meantime. It is also designed as a pointer to other sites, so please do not (a) post full articles, or (b) add comments that don't consist of information on new content in the paper/website/whatever. This means that comments on who did what to whom, which party got more votes, what you think of a particular author or article, whose hamster was eaten by Freddie Starr , or anything else, will be hidden. If you are upset by an article linked to, you can add a comment or an (original and more-than-a-single-line) article as a standard newswire story. This is a page for links and updates only. The normal practice of hiding links to sites that are racist, discriminatory etc. will be followed.

Marines arriving in Iraq this month as part of a massive troop rotation will bring with them a high-tech weapon never before used in combat — or in peacekeeping. The device is a powerful megaphone the size of a satellite dish that can deliver recorded warnings in Arabic and, on command, emit a piercing tone so excruciating to humans, its boosters say, that it causes crowds to disperse, clears buildings and repels intruders.

"[For] most people, even if they plug their ears, [the device] will produce the equivalent of an instant migraine," says Woody Norris, chairman of American Technology Corp., the San Diego firm that produces the weapon. "It will knock [some people] on their knees."

Minneapolis Community and Technical College's most notable collection of writing may never attract antiquarian book collectors or Ivy League literary scholars. Sotheby's, Yale -- that's the establishment. Burn it down!

Rather, the publications in this collection speak to punk-rock kids, young lesbians, anarchists, geeks, and weirdos. The titles alone assault the senses: Pure Tuna Fish, Today's Prostrate American Temp Worker, Planet Nicotine, and See You in Hell. They are part of the college's collection of some 3,500 zines -- a gathering of the sort of ephemera usually ignored by academic libraries.

"Zines are the true underground," says Thomas Eland, the librarian at the community college who helped start the collection. "Part of the reason that we have the collection of zines is to educate people that they exist."

AMY GOODMAN: It was a kidnapping under the cover of coup d'etat?

PRESIDENT ARISTIDE: Yes.

AMY GOODMAN: Who forced you out of the country?

PRESIDENT ARISTIDE:I saw U.S. officials with Ambassador Foley.

Mr. Moreno, [inaudible...] at the U.S. Embassy in Haiti I saw
American soldiers. I saw former soldiers who are linked to drug

basically, this night, I didn't see Haitians, I saw Americans.

Q: What did you think about President Bush’s Thanksgiving visit to
Iraq?

A: I was there when President Bush came to the [Baghdad] airport.
The day before, you had to fill out a questionnaire and answer
questions, that would determine whether they would allow you in
the room with the President.

Q: What was on the questionnaire?

A: “Do you support the president?”

Q: Really!

A: Yes.

Q: Members of the military were asked whether they support the
president politically?

A: Yes. And if the answer was not a gung-ho, A-1, 100 percent yes,
then you were not allowed into the cafeteria. You were not
allowed to eat the Thanksgiving meal that day. You had an MRE.

Q: What’s an MRE?

A: Meals ready to eat. We also call them “meals refused by
Ethiopians.”

Q: About this questionnaire, it raises a serious question about
whether military personnel, or civil servants for that matter,
should ever be asked questions by their supervisors about their
political beliefs. It also raises the whole question of freedom
of speech. In particular, the circumstances under which members
of the military have freedom of speech.

A: There is none.

Airstrip One - Formally called England. This term seems to show some distain for American influence Europe. Orwell seems to be predicting England’s future in an English-speaking Super-State. It seems that Oceania (America, England, South America, Australia) looks upon Britain as little more than an ‘airstrip’ ... a launching ground into the European theater of war.

A BANGLADESHI pilot needed first aid after a stowaway cat got into the cockpit of his aircraft and attacked him, a report said today.

The cat pounced on the pilot after managing to get into the cockpit of the plane flying from the northeastern city of Sylhet to the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, a report in the New Age daily said.

The pilot, who works for the national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, was not seriously hurt.

On arrival at Dhaka's Zia International Airport, the cat evaded security staff and escaped.

It was finally caught in the airport two hours later, the report said.

Latest opposition to the council tax is being led by the Socialists. Calls for the abolition of the council tax have failed to win the backing of the Scottish Parliament. Scottish Socialist Party leader Tommy Sheridan said MSPs should reflect public opinion as he led a debate on the issue at Holyrood on Thursday.

He had lodged a motion which called on MSPs to support the scrapping of the charge and its replacement with an income-based alternative.

However, his move was defeated by 88 votes to 33.

A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced a renowned U.S. expert on bubonic plague to two years in prison for fraudulent research contracts and improperly shipping samples of the deadly bacteria overseas.

In December, a jury convicted Thomas Butler, 62, a former Texas Tech University professor, on 47 counts out of a total of 69 federal charges brought against him.

Butler was cleared, however, on charges he lied to the FBI in a statement that 30 vials of the bacteria that cause the plague were missing.

It perhaps ought be noted that the leader of the illegalised party attended the Basque Local Government concentration.

Within 36 hours of the US terrorist event which began the woes of our recent history popular and official reaction had been somewhat different. Spain has seen in the words of one TV presenter this afternoon unprecedented solidarity between political parties, trade unions and social collectives.

8 million marched, and you listed the presence of burlosconi but please note he was in the second row and no-one talked to him, even if it hadn't been "Hey look we can all stand together and say nothing" sort of thing, I reckon very few would have spoken to him anyway. And the wrinkles show through in the rain Silvio.
But "independent news Ireland" didn't mention the black ribbons, now our mutual loathing is well established but you could at least quote the Police figures couldn't you? How much exactly are you paying the correspondent in Madrid?
Now look back your editorials and experts and tell your readers how to keep us all safe.
can you even do that? or do you just sell advertising? and slander pacifists / dingbats and your own youth?
