Anti-War Discussion

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Wednesday February 18, 2004 17:20author by Anthony Report this post to the editors

Meeting to discuss anti-war activity in Ireland

There are many anti-war groups active around the country but there could be better communication and co-ordination between these different groups. Groups working together and sharing experiences and resources will be more effective and productive than individual groups working in isolation. With this idea in mind a number of anti-war activists will meet at the Ha'penny Inn in Dublin at 1.30 pm on Saturday.

All those interested in opposing Ireland's participation in war are welcome to attend. The objective of the meeting is not to start a new anti-war organisation but to share our experiences, thoughts and ideas. This meeting follows from a similar meeting which took place in Galway last month. Naturally those who have already been active within various anti-war groups will have more to contribute but non-activists are also welcome to attend.

Hi Anthony,

Unfortunately not in Dublin at present to be able to make this meeting but I urge you to discuss the issue of co-ordinating the raising of funds for prisoners of peace, such as Eoin Rice at present. Legal costs can be substantial, and these people have been brave enuf, that those of us who are less brave should get together and help them out financially.

I have been in contact with retired army commandant Edward Horgan, and he shares my suprise and dissapointment that more financial support has not been made available to prisoners and legal campaigners against the government.

The IAWM seems to have centered its fund raising on gereral campaigns against the war which while of course good, seem to have neglected the foot & fallen soilders in the front line.

I know it would be hard to organise but I think a national fund is badly needed.

Edward Horgan along with Tim Hourigan and others hope to arrange a meeting down in Limerick soon to this end.

Edward can be contaced at

Im sure Fintan Lane would have a keen interest in this also:-

Best of luck with your meeting tomorrow and well done.
