Dublin's Lord Mayor Not Doing his Work

category dublin | miscellaneous | opinion/analysis author Monday January 19, 2004 14:58author by Lord Mayor Watcher Report this post to the editors

The Lord Mayor of Dublin City, Mr.Royston Brady, has been accused of not doing his duties.

Past Mayor Mary Freehill has attacked Royston Brady of Fianna Fail for using the State Coach for his personal use in his wedding. It cost about €10,000 to use the coach built in 1780. Freehill has also said that Brady has not chaired the last 5 meetings of the City Council, which is a duty of his office. The Lord Mayor is also gaining critics in Academia, Royston Brady has not attended any meetings of UCD's Governing Authority which he an ex-officio member of.

Brady is seen by many as being very opportunistic and letting his duties slip.

This fool lost the rag with councillors who criticised him for using state property to host FF shindigs. He called the protesting councillors "pathetic", "clowns" and "a waste of space" (report in todays Daily Mirror).

Our unwanted latest addition to the new Irish version of royalty can hardly be blamed for treating councillors as uppity peasants when Dublin council can be abolished by the FF/PD junta if imposed budget is not passed. (BTW thanks to the Green party for bending over and showing us which side you're really on).

Let's hope that this gobsite gets turfed out in June, that would be something I would actually like to see covered by his media buddies as opposed to the usual "I think rain is wet - Royston".

When devilish Dunphy, didn't turn up at some socialshite partei, to pick up award for no.1 party animal (probably fucked from the night before), the Dublin magazine that was throwing the partei spotted Roysy in the shite crowd that was there and thought, "hey Roysy's pretty wild these days he's always out goin completely mad, we'll give it to him", and so that night Roysy stepped into the shoes of the number 1 party shaker schmoozer cruiser of the wild and crazy Dublin parteing scene. No wonder Roysy can't go to these focking meetings, he's got shit loads of parteis to go to, sure Berts only delighted gotta keep the celeby buzz goin!
I think Roysy looks a bit like Colin Farrrell!
Ciao.

I really hope Royston Renault Brady gets turfed out too, but sadly he'll probably be re-elected because of the publicty he's managed to attract due to his views. No such thing as bad press eh..

Its clear that he thinks that the mayorality (sp?) is a stepping stone to national politics but let's hope it turns out to be his stumbling block. This guy is abusing his position. He doesn't do his job (chair meetings), and he makes wild criticisms of a general nature of no constructive nature.

I find poor wee Royston's social climbing and careerism has a strangely morbid fascination to it. Lately in all interviews he has been going on about being born here, lived there, studied somwhere else, moved on to location x, worked in blahtown, now living in..., etc.

It is developing a Charlie Haughey look to it - attempting to appeal to everyone by his connection with their town or suburb. Does he imagine someone will go "Oh look, Royston studied in Athlone and my old Auntie used to live there, so might as well give him the stroke." Moron.

He recently said that, although he has a newly bought house in East Wall, he is looking for somewhere bigger, "somewhere that you can swing a cat". Now anyone with sense knows the reason he bought the house was to pretend to be a local, but what does this say about his attitude to the people living in identical local houses who do not have the option to scoot off when it suits them? That said everywhere must appear a bit "bijou" after his reign in the Mansion House.

Was this man born with a camera lodged up his arse? Never did someone with so little to say get so much coverage for saying so little.

I had the (dis)pleasure of his company on one occasion. He is as bland as a traffic cone. He'd say anything to get elected.

Anyone know anything about R Brady's religious convictions. a) does he have any? b) how come he hosted a hush hush screening of Mel Gibson's Jesus snuff-flick at the Mansion House back in early December?
c) is it true only representatives of 'special interest' groups of the religious right were invited? d) since when has the Mansion House been used for secret events such as this?
