Justin Trudeau wants to prorogue Parliament to buy time before the election. Voters will punish him for it, says Prof James Allan, but it's a mistake he must be allowed to make without activist judges getting in the way.

Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

the politicisation of doctors continues.

Dr Illona Duffy, a Monaghan GP and her lobby group for which she is a very effective spokesperson has moved closer to declaring for the next elections.

You'll prompt little shoots from the stony grey soil, it's never a bad time for the cultivation.

Yes I agree that we should be very wary of the single issue candidates. But if she were to run on a clear anti cuts agenda and did not simply fall into the trap of calling for cuts in other areas, then we should see her standing and the movement she is part of as a very positive thing despite any backward ideas on abortion etc that might exist among her supporters.

Activists should involve themselves fully with the campaign to keep hospitals open. They must give a clear line stating that no cuts should be accepted and also argue against any backward ideas on contraception abortion etc. They must also linkup with hospital workers and build for strike action on a local and national basis, Trying to extend it to all sectors.

There are many people in Ireland who every election see fit to offer themselves for election on various platforms some of which are perceived as being single issue and others drawing together many issues.
Yet it is very difficult to find information on those who get elected. At the moment there are loads of independent TDs, Senators, Cllrs etc., but no indication of their voting patterns, performance, "orientation".
I think it might be a good idea to keep an "eye" on these type of candidates.
and I wonder could anyone else provide a brief sketch of the independent non party elected representatives in Irish Politics?

dont wanna go to monaghan. i hear they have clones there. why dont her supporters post up some of her positions on other topics?

i cast no aspersions on the good doctor, but some of last years "hospital" candidates were anti-immigrant.
