Bad Books Dublin

Bad Books Library is a new venture to promote the sharing of books on politics, activism and alternatives to mainstream culture, in particular the kind of books unavailable in Dublins main libraries. It concentrates on activism, minority groups, politics, anarchism, animal rights, direct action, socialism, squatting, vegetarianism and veganism (including recipe books). Go to www.geocities.com/badbooksdublin

Many of us have a couple of books lying neglected around our houses. Having read them we leave them on our bookshelves where they gather dust until they are thrown away or destroyed.
We want to put these books back in circulation where they can be appreciated over and over again.
Why not show your appreciation of these books by sharing them as widely as possible in the hope that they can have as much of an impact on others lives as they have had on yours.

The library relies on your support and generosity and will only work if people not only donate their books but take the time to familiarise themselves with the catalogue and borrow the books. By donating three books or more (or the equivalent in other media) you will automatically become a member of the library and all the books, pamphlets and multimedia in it. A selection of periodicals and zines are also available to read on the premises. Bad Books is run on a trust basis. You may take out and return books yourself without having to deal with the staff but you must leave a record of what you have taken, so that we know who has what.

Donations of books or multi media are accepted on any subjects but especially the following: activism, minority groups, politics, anarchism, animal rights, direct action, socialism, squatting, vegetarianism and veganism (including recipe books). For anyone who has nothing suitable to donate, a fee of ten euros can be charged, this will be used to replace any books damaged or lost by that member. If you want to join us then contact Bad Books by ringing (087) 649 7340. The library will be accessible in a city centre location every day of the week. The list below is a sample of what was in the library at the end of August after only a month of existence. Updated lists can be found at www.geocities.com/badbooksdublin

I tried to view the website, but it appears to be down at the moment. Any idea when it will be functioning?

I generally buy books on the aforementioned topics as they are not available elsewhere. As you can imagine, this is in no way cheap to do. Therefore, I am looking forward to hearing more about the library and to joining in the future.

If you leave an email address, I can probably help somehow. Some stuff rom autonomedia and odds and ends from what was once the Garden of Delight.

Might be an idea to ask someone for a bit of webspace as well as the geocities page is down again because of bandwidth thresholds.

As someone asked earlier but subsequently had her question taken away: where is this library, or have I missed something very obvious?

that the library is in someones home and that they prefer people to phone or e-mail for details - rather than publishing address here.
