Church leaders are too quick to condemn Tommy Robinson and the Unite the Kingdom march, says Chris Larkin. We don't know what Jesus would have made of our politics, but we can?t just assume he?d have been a Lib Dem voter.

Finglas residents reclaim street

category dublin | environment | news report author Thursday August 07, 2003 13:28author by hopespringseternal - rts Report this post to the editors

way to go!

The residents down in Ratoath Drive in Finglas have been blocking
their road with wheelie bins and barriers for two hours every day for
the past week or so.

They're basically asking for the same thing as the Dominick St
people - traffic calming measures to stop kids getting knocked down.

There is an article and a picture about the protest in this weeks 'Northside People', if anyone wants to track it down.

calm down the traffic.
wheelie bins are truly one the highpoints of our daily interaction with high technology. And almost no-one appreciates the amount of effort that went into their design. Being the veteran guerrilla gardener that I am, I nurse in my mind's eye @ the moment a picture of some road in Finglas reclaimed in just the right carnival atmosphere against the car, death and using the wheelie bin as symbol of our future.
Wheelie bins.
recycled polymer bonded plastic with material memory, resilient, mouldable material at a fine window of 540ºcentrigrade, spin rate is slow and thus energy low in production costs.

= Tell the kids how wonderful wheel bins are.

It is my belief that we lack "wonder" in our age, we may speak of the danger caused by cars driving on Oil to bring some mortgage payer to work, AND get political, yet ignore the miracle of technology that is the wheelybin.

& look underneath you will find the patent number and codification of the U.S. based corporation that holds all profit arising from use and misuse of your recycled recylable wheely bin/barricade.

Fair play to you Finglas.

Lots of similar actions have been happening in Ballymun too where we now have the situation of a spin-off corporation (Ballymun Regeneration Ltd) organising and dictating the whole future of a single community. They disolved community forums and put the blame on residents, their safety records are appaling (with two site workers and one child killed in the last three years), they've destroyed all public space with innumerable but non-used building sites, and they've scapegoated minorities by renting new houses to the Eastern Healthboard with the result that refugees, homeless people etc are living temporarly in houses which are supposedly designated for residents.

More info to come at a future date.
