Church leaders are too quick to condemn Tommy Robinson and the Unite the Kingdom march, says Chris Larkin. We don't know what Jesus would have made of our politics, but we can?t just assume he?d have been a Lib Dem voter.

88% of 2fm theoretically support Mary Kelly's actions

category clare | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Tuesday July 08, 2003 02:15author by David Rynne Report this post to the editors

In a 2fm text poll today (07 july on Gareth o Callaghan's show)) where the question asked was "if you saw a young child in distress because he/she was locked in the back seat of a car on a hot day would you,
a: break open the window
b: call the police
c: wait for the parent/car owner to return and then give him/her a piece of your mind
88% said they would call the police and then break open the window.

Apart from the fact that there was no option d: to mutter under your breath and silently allow the child to suffer,
most people chose mary kelly (and eoin dubsky and the catholic workers) course of action and "broke the law" to rescue an innocent in distress

I wonder if the same poll had been put forward with mary kelly's situation in place of the hypothetical one, would the result have been so straigtforward?
