No wonder standards of university education are sliding, says Joanna Gray. The admissions process is a festival of social engineering, with lower "contextual" offers made on the basis of sob-story "supporting information".

Vegan/Animal Rights talks in Galway, Wednesday 6th March

category galway | animal rights | event notice author Monday March 04, 2019 13:11author by Roger Yates - Vegan Information Project Report this post to the editors

NUIG Host Vegan In formation and Advocacy Evening

EFFECTIVE AR OUTREACH: A practical workshop for animal rights advocates by Thomas O'Boyle with follow a talk, VEGAN PIONEERS ROCK! by Dr. Roger Yates. NUIG, Wednesday 6th March, 2019. 6-8pm.

EFFECTIVE ANIMAL RIGHTS OUTREACH: A practical workshop for animal rights advocates-

When entering discussion about animal rights/veganism we tend to think it is a daunting tasks. The system is built against us, with billions of revenue being pumped into the speciesist business sectors every year in Ireland.

Thomas O'Boyle has been working in sales and direct customer focused avenues for over ten years. He has been on the streets of Galway for over a year after founding Oppressed & Unheard to combat the misinformation being spread about veganism. He engages in outreach nearly every week refining what he calls "effective advocacy". We all have different personalities and different "ins" within advocacy which is a useful tool, however one thing that is not unique is whether we are effective or not.

You don't need a background in sales. You don't need to enjoy talking. You can still be very effective in how you advocate with some simple tips and tricks which Thomas hopes to accomplish with this demonstration.

To get the full advantage of this workshop he advises you to have a look at these two free documents prior if possible:

VEGAN PIONEERS ROCK!: Founding of a Revolutionary Social Movement-

The pioneers of the vegan movement had a radical vision of a vegan world in which both other animals and humans would be liberated. They saw veganism as part of the peace movement, and integral to the moral evolution of humanity.

Join Roger Yates as we explore origins of veganism as a social movement, how it was formed in England in 1944 during World War II, and how the movement has evolved into its current state.

Dr. Roger Yates became a vegan in 1979 for ethical reasons. For most of his adult life, he’s been involved in various volunteer roles in the grassroots of the animal advocacy movement. In the late 1980s, he served 4 years in prison for his press liaison work for the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). He is currently an organizing volunteer for Dublin-based Vegan Information Project (VIP).

He is also an occasional lecturer in sociology at UCD and has taught social theory, critical theory, the sociology of humour, and social movements and protest modules. His MA was about the British animal advocacy movement, and his PhD was a study of the three pillars of the ideology of speciesism: theology, philosophy, and everyday social practice.
