Measles Alert

category national | sci-tech | news report author Wednesday November 15, 2017 18:51author by Vax Now ! Report this post to the editors

Responding to a recent measles outbreak in which 17 adults and children have been infected with the highly infectious disease , Dr Deirdre Mulholland, Director of Public Health for HSE East, has urged people to get themselves and their dependants vaccinated , saying, “the best protection is to be fully vaccinated with 2 doses of MMR vaccine."
The majority of the patients currently being treated are from north Dublin; five are from Meath, the HSE said today. A spokeswoman for the Measles Outbreak Control Team said that alerts regarding the disease have been sent to all Emergency Departments and GPs in Dublin, and Meath.

The Measles Sub-Committee of the Scientific Advisory Committee and the National Disease Surveillance Centre issued guidelines for Control of Measles in Ireland in 2002 .Their report recommends aggressive surveillance by health professionals so that trends and risk factors can be documented to guide the development of control policy. The full report can be read here:

This scare is a load of crap. Years ago everyone got the measles and given the population there would have been way more than 17 people getting it at once.

It seems now that the vaccine industry has created a new scare and are using this to push more dodgy vaccines on people.

What's more as most probably know shingles which is a related disease and in some ways worse affects people generally when they are older but it is well known that having measles in childhood can protect or at least mean that if you do get shingles later in life it won't be as bad.

And here' s the not such a big surprise. In the USA where they having been pushing the measles vaccines, people are getting shingles at a much earlier age and far more severe case of it too. When people get bad cases of shingles they can end up in permanent pain. It is also something that people tend to get when under a lot of stress which given the neoliberal policies of the last decade or two, insecure employment and high rents are all leading to increasingly stressful lives.

According to the article below , which cites a new study by the US-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , in 2000, over half a million people died from measles world-wide .In 2016 , after the World Health Organization sponsored an eradication program the number of deaths from the preventable disease was 90,000 . The WHO measles eradication program has saved an estimated 20 million lives since 2000.

And the program was based on vaccination .

The IFL article concludes with this warning : “The wilful spread of misinformation is threatening to derail the destruction of measles. Don’t let it. If you see someone making these claims, call them out on it – you may be helping to save a child’s life at the end of the day.”

Obviously, people who express public doubts about vaccination programmes should have a qualification in medicine and they should provide statistical data to show that the vaccine in question is ineffective in many cases and/or it causes bad physical reactions in many individuals who are vaccinated. The pharmaceutical industry is supposed to carry out stringent research and experimentation, refereed by medical scientists and reputable institutions, before launching a new vaccine or chemical tablet. We are historically aware of the Thalidomide disaster in the early 1960s when the drug was marketed as a mild sleeping pill safe even for pregnant women, and then in many countries women who had taken the drug gave birth to deformed babies.

There will always be some individuals who react badly to a vaccine or chemical drug. Metabolism or individual medical history may be the cause. If the number of reactions is a small percentage of all treated persona, there may be no cause for worry - nevertheless urgent research needs to be done into which metabolical and medical history factors are most likely to cause severe reactions, so that identified persons will not be treated in programmes.

It is good to learn that a WHO programme of vaccination against measles has curtailed and prevented the infant disease wonderfully, especially in developing economy countries. Who paid for the programme in various countries?

Dr Paul Kavanagh , a specialist in public health medicine and Director of Public Health for HSE North East, has told the Irish Mirror that the measles outbreak is “still ongoing” .His advice :
"Make sure you are fully vaccinated.
""Ring ahead to your family doctor."
The Measles Outbreak Control Team has repeated the following advice on the measures to control the further spread of this potentially serious illness:
1. All children should get the MMR vaccine when they are aged 12 months. If any child aged over 12 months has missed this vaccine they should get it now from their General Practitioner (GP).
2. All children should get a second dose of MMR vaccine when they are 4-5 years old or in Junior Infants at school. If any child in Senior Infants or older has missed this vaccine they should get it now from their GP.
3. Adults under 40 years who have not had measles or have not received 2 doses of MMR vaccine should contact their GP to get the MMR vaccine.
