Mexican navy in uniform invade Dublin

category dublin | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday June 17, 2015 21:10author by author - Anti-War Activist places US Soldiers under (Citizens) Arrest in Co Clare. Report this post to the editors

Full uniform and hat worn.

About 6 uniformed naval officers in complete uniform walked Grafton street around 21.00 hours on the 17th of June 2015.
They went into Mc D. Grafton street.

These soldiers are not supposed to be walking freely on the streets of Ireland in uniform. It is a breach of the Irish Constitution and Irish neutrality. An army of another country can’t flaunt itself in uniform. In 2006 a similar breach resulted in the arrest of 6 US soldiers.

I guess the mexican army are not anything like as threatening as the US army. It wasn't the mexicans who invaded Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, etc etc, and the mexicans do not have hundreds of military bases and thousands of nuclear weapons and they are not known to arrest people in other countries and whisk them away to be tortured. In fact the only country the mexican army ever tried to invade is the US I think! You gotta give them some credit for that! ;-)
Apparently many believe they still should have ownership of Texas and that the US stole it in their usual fashion a long time ago.

Mexico has long been fucked over by its bad neighbour the US. Between the whole drugs demand issue, one sided trade deals such as NAFTA, the selling of weapons and general bad behaviour, it has become a basket case country.
In the US, mexicans are often employed to do the worst jobs because they lack a valid visa. Creating a basket case country on your border means cheap labour which undermines the rights of normal workers.

So maybe mexicans deserve a break, unlike the US military scum who go out of their way to make everybody else's life hell. especially if you are brown skinned, have some lucrative natural resources that could be exploited in the future, or dare to stand up to their self serving economic models, currency, and general diktats.

You actually might want to look up the rules on this. Traditionally a "man-o-war" is allowed to drop in on a neutral port. Rules about how long they can stay if welcome, if not welcome, etc. I think those rules do require them to stay in uniform (so can be identified) while visiting.

Let's just use the term "military personnel" then.
Frankly they are all just paid killers in my book.

on a related note, veterans for peace have just released a couple of short films
highlighting the fact that 16 year olds can still be recruited into the army
in the UK.

Show em to your kids! ;-)

They use "action man" toys to depict realities of war not shown in the toy / video game
recruitment propaganda fed to young children

I was NOT commenting about whether we like (approve of) the military.

I was commenting based on the "generally accepted rules" for the conduct of the military. And BTW, the rules in many regards are quite different land military vs sea military. Go ahead and look. There are pages and pages of material describing rules of conduct between naval forces and neutrals in the Hague conventions.

In other words, I was commenting about the "hey, they aren't allowed to do that" by arguing "yes they can" (and saying why). But don't interpret that to mean that I am supporting any of those particular rules, just commenting on what they are.
