Creating a People's Charter for renewable energy

category national | environment | event notice author Wednesday October 02, 2013 23:37author by anon - Claiming Our Future Report this post to the editors

RENEWABLE ENERGY – PRODUCTION, DISTRIBUTION & CONSERVATION

LEAF and Claiming Our Future invite you to participate in an event to discuss production and distribution of renewable energy and energy conservation. The intention is to identify priorities to include in a People’s Charter on Renewable Energy.

Our dependence on fossil fuels makes for an unsustainable economy and society. This dependence leaves our economy and all of us at the mercy of rising global energy prices. This contributes to an ever-increasing cost of living and people living in poverty find it increasingly difficult to meet their energy needs.

Time: Opening: 11.00 am – Close: 4.15 pm – Registration from 10.30am

LEAF and Claiming Our Future invite you to participate in an event to discuss production and distribution of renewable energy and energy conservation. The intention is to identify priorities to include in a People’s Charter on Renewable Energy.

Our dependence on fossil fuels makes for an unsustainable economy and society. This dependence leaves our economy and all of us at the mercy of rising global energy prices. This contributes to an ever-increasing cost of living and people living in poverty find it increasingly difficult to meet their energy needs.

There are alternatives. We need to invest in new ways of producing, distributing, and conserving energy. Biofuel, hydro, solar, wind and geothermal power sources are available. Small scale renewable energy production that is locally owned could be developed. Fossil fuel dependent activities could be retrofitted and housing insulation expanded.

This event is the start of a process that we hope will be participative and wide ranging. It is open to all and it is free. It should engage people from across the country. This is not just an environmental issue. It should engage people from all sectors of civil society – environmental, community , trade union, cultural , global justice and wider.

This debate is urgent. It needs your ideas. Help shape the People’s Charter.

Lunch will be provided
