Military Intervention in Syria: Protest if US attacks Syria

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Tuesday August 27, 2013 23:57author by Turing Report this post to the editors

It seems very likely that the US, backed by UK,France etc, is going to attack Syria very soon.

Regardless of what we think of the Assad regime and its crimes we should oppose this intervention which will only make matters worse and is only designed to further imperialist interests.

As we don’t know exactly when this will occur the Irish Anti-War Movement is calling a protest at the Spire for 6pm ON THE DAY OF THE ATTACK or THE NEXT DAY IF THE ATTACK IS AT NIGHT.

We will update this even with the definite day once we know more....

Please support this protest and spread the word. Invite your friends

The New York Times’ website has been disabled for the second time in under a month, with the newspaper attributing the outage to a “malicious external attack” widely thought to have come from hackers affiliated with the Syrian Electronic Army.

“Many users are having difficulty accessing the New York Times online,” the paper wrote on its Facebook page. “We are working to fix the problem. Our initial assessment is the outage is most likely the result of a malicious external attack. In the meantime we are continuing to publish key news reports.”

Multiple screenshots online reveal that when a user attempts to visit www.nytimes.com, the only message that appears is “Hacked by the SEA.” The hacker collective regularly infiltrates media organizations it perceives to be aligned against the Assad government.

NYT is a US policy mouthpiece and, for the most part, a poor excuse for honest journalism.
Kudos to the hackers for giving them a bloody digital nose.

How they managed to pry that brown digital nose from so far up the ass of imperialism long enough to bloody it is the real question here! :-)

I agree with the last comment, but surely the lack of any genuine opposition to war on Syria from the official anti war movement is the most decisive factor in the acquiescence?
The most that the IAWM website has to say on the subject of war on Syria - a war that even sections of the corporate media say could draw in Iran, Hezbollah and Israel , and possibly lead to war with Russia is:

"Regardless of what we think of the Assad regime and its crimes we should oppose this intervention [sic] which will only make matters worse ."

Since the Syrian crisis broke two and half years ago, the IAWM has constantly been churning out anti-Syrian propaganda and ,it must be said ,it is today serving as a left/humanitarian fifth column for imperialist designs . The important role played by the outed CIA asset Mahdi Al Harati and his rich Al qaida linked supporters in the "turning" of the IAWM needs to be faced up to .

In fairness to RTE , their coverage of the Syrian crisis has actually been fairer and more objective in relation to Syria than the distortion ,disinformation and outright lies put out by most of the left parties in Ireland. On 29 August RTE disclosed the fact that the UK Tory MP Andrew Bridgen, who led opposition among Conservative backbench MPs to the demands for immediate war on Syria had received information suggesting that the Syrian government did not use chemical weapons against civilians in Ghouta. . What does the IAWM have to say about the RTE report ? Absolutely nothing . What has Richard Boyd Barret TD ,who got elected largely because of his prominence as leader of the IAWM , said on the subject of Ghouta? Nothing at all.

French acquiescer, from Latin acquiescere, from ad- + quiescere to be quiet ...............Webster dictionary

When the US, as a pretext for launching war , accuses Syria of using chemical weapons on its own citizens the IAWM cannot express even a word of doubt about the US claims.

If the IAWM is genuinely opposed to war on Syria why does it never link to such reports as this one that appeared on RT in May?
http://rt.com/news/sarin-gas-turkey-al-nusra-021/
"Turkish security forces found a 2kg cylinder with sarin gas after searching the homes of Syrian militants from the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front who were previously detained, Turkish media reports. The gas was reportedly going to be used in a bomb."

Why does its website not link to the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA report in June which claimed that the Syrian Army had seized two containers with Sarin nerve gas from rebels?
