US forces have been moved to the Jordan - Syria border. NATO says it will "defend" Syria. Turkey moves jets to Syrian border all of the pieces are being put into place for an intervention in Syria by the Imperialist powers and their local clients. Iraq however is not going along with the charade.
Meanwhile the "rebels" continue to target media workers: A Syrian cameraman for a state television channel was shot dead on Wednesday in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, broadcaster Al-Ikhbariya announced. Cameraman Mohammad al-Ashram “was killed by terrorists,” Al-Ikhbariya director Imad Sara told AFP.
The truth about the mortaring of Turkey also emerges.
Turkish Air Force F-16s moved to border. Stories on the build up to intervention and who really shelled Turkey.
Confirmed: Pentagon deploys military forces to Jordan-Syria border
US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has confirmed that US troops have been dispatched to the Jordan-Syrian border to help bolster the former’s military capabilities in case violence escalates in the volatile region.
“We have been working with Jordan for a period of time now…on a number of issues that have developed as a result of what’s happening in Syria," Panetta said. He said chief among those issues were the “humanitarian needs” that has developed as a result of the refugee influx into Jordan.
“We have also been working with them in the effort to monitor the CBW (Chemical-Biological Weapons) sites to determine how best to respond to any concerns in that area," Panetta continued.
“And we’ve also been working with them to help them develop their own military and operational capabilities in the event of any contingency there, and that’s the reason we have a group of our forces there. They’re working to help them build a headquarters there and to ensure that we make the relationship between the United States and Jordan a strong one so that we can deal with all of the possible consequences of what is happening in Syria,” he added.
Panetta’s comments came during a NATO conference of defense ministers in Brussels on Wednesday, where he said the US had been working with Jordan to monitor chemical and biological weapons sites in Syria and help the country deal with Syrian refugees crossing over the border.
Earlier in the day Jordan’s military had denied the US military was helping the kingdom deal with the influx of Syrian refugees and other security related issues.
"News reports that the United States is helping Jordan deal with the Syrian refugees or face dangers related to chemical weapons are not true," state-run Petra news agency cited a Jordan Armed Forces spokesperson as saying.
The US has previously used Jordan as a base for other Syria-related military activities. In May of this year, Washington held military drills in Jordan dubbed ‘Operation Eager Lion,’ which saw around 12,000 troops from several nations participate in undisclosed training exercises. ...

Misfire: NATO mortar ‘gift’ from Turkey to Syrian rebels – newspaper
The mortar used to attack the Turkish town of Akcakale is a design specific to NATO and was given to Syrian rebels by Ankara, according to Turkey’s Yurt newspaper. The mortar killed one adult and four children from the same family on Wednesday.
An article by the paper’s Editor-in-Chief, Merdan Yanardag, states that the newspaper received information from a reliable source, which claimed that Turkey itself sent the mortars to rebels in the so-called "free army."
“Turkey is a longtime member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and they’re going to act in conjunction with other NATO powers, so it’s unsurprising that this has happened,” editor of the Pan-African news wire, Abayomi Azikiwe, told RT.
NATO has so far shunned any military involvement in the conflict, but Azikiwe says the alliance is deeply involved in every decision that Turkey makes.
“Ankara isn’t taking any military actions or contemplating any type of military strategy without being in full cooperation with NATO forces,” he said.
Turkey retaliated at Syria for a sixth consecutive day on Monday, after a mortar from Syria landed in Turkey’s Hatay province. ...

Iraqi PM: Turkey not threatened by Syria, don't overblow war or drag in NATO
NATO must not use protecting Turkey as a pretext to intervene in Syria, the Iraqi PM said during a Russian press conference. The statement followed an escalation of tensions between Turkey and Syria following last week’s cross-border shelling.
“The story goes that supposedly Syrian planes dropped bombs on Turkish territory, but everything has been over-exaggerated, even if it did really happen,” Nouri al-Maliki said.
He argued that no one was threatening Turkey, and that there was no need for them to call on NATO for support.
“Turkey is being presumptuous, you could say, as if it were taking responsibility for solving the Syrian conflict instead of the Syrian people and wants to impose its own solution. For this reason the international community needs to stop Turkey from intervening," he said.
Al-Maliki is on a three-day visit to Russia, where he said that Iraq's position on Syria is similar to Russia's one as both countries are calling for peaceful resolution of the conflict. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin postponed a visit to Ankara, Turkey, because of his busy schedule this month, the Kremlin press office told RT. ...

Jump To Comment: 5 4 3 2 1RTE also carried the same news about the forced landing and do their damnedest to imply there was weapons on board when clearly there wasn't because if the Turks did find them they would be showing them to the world; even though these hypocrites have made their own incursions into Iraq in pursuit of Kurds and shelling the same.
For an example of the twisted attempt to spin this story here's some examples from the RTE report
..... Turkish fighter jets forced the plane to land citing suspicions the aircraft was carrying military equipment. ......
Authorities seized some cargo from the plane, which according to Turkish state media may have included military communication equipment.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu would not say what had been found on the plane, only that they confiscated illegal items ...

From the pathetic Guardian:
'Eight die" in attack on bus at Lebanese border - http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/middle-east-live/2012/o...-live
Down the page @ 13:01 BST
Syrian state television is reporting that eight people have been killed today in an attack by "armed terrorists" on a bus transporting Syrian workers at the Lebanon border.
A further eight people are said to have been wounded. The Syrian government uses the term "armed terrorists" when referring to rebel fighters.
More details when we have them.
SO even though they just massacred Eight civilian workers the Pro-Imperialist/Humanitarian-Interventionist/Scum at the Guardian still can't bring themselves to call it an act of Terrorism, in fact they do the exact opposite - they actually go out of their way to present it as the act of "rebel fighters" and point out that it is only the Syrian Gov't that would claim this as an act of terrorism.
Ergo if you consider that this was an act of terrorism you must be a Syrian Gov't supporter, (and since Assad is one of the numerous New Hitlers you might also be a Holocaust Denier, blah blah blah)
Eight people were killed on Thursday in an attack by “armed terrorists” on a bus at the Lebanon border, Syrian state television said. Eight people on the bus were also reportedly wounded in the attack. The bus was transporting Syrian workers, the channel said.

Apparently Jordan is experiencing a mini arab spring too. But this time an unwanted one like that in Bahrain. More blatant bare faced irony, considering all the media hand wringing about supporting "rebels seeking democracy" in Syria.
It will be Interesting to see how Russia will further respond to an aircraft from their country being stopped
It is being reported this evening that the Turkish govt forced a Syrian civilian airline flying from Moscow to Syria into a forced landing in the Turkish capital Ankara. The plane was overflying the Black Sea when it entered Turkish airspace and was intercepted by Turkish jets.
The alleged reason was that they suspect the plane was carrying weapons but of course this is all a provocation and rather amusing since the Turkish govt has been providing base to the mercenaries who have murdered thousands of people in Syria.
This certainly all adds up to generating a pretext for invasion.
See link for a filed report of the incident.
