Assange of WikiLeaks became the latest enemy of the U.S. Government following WikiLeaks distribution of this "collateral murder" footage of a massacre of two Reuters journalists and other civilians in Baghdad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rXPrfnU3G0
and subsequent U.S. embassy cables exposing the nature of U.S.war on Iraq and Afghanistan. The British government opposed his release from HMP Wandsworth last December. Julian has now spent 356 days under arrest without charge, is presently facing extradition without charge to Sweden and eventual rendition to the U.S.

Lawyers for Assange recently filed an application for the chance to persuade judges he should be allowed one last appeal in the Supreme Court.

The bid was lodged two weeks after High Court judges rejected the 40-year-old hacker's challenge to an order that he be extradited to Sweden to face questioning. Assange has been willing to face questioning by Swedish authorites in Britain.

His lawyers now must try to persuade High Court judges at a Dec. 5 hearing to rule that his case raises a question of general public importance and should be considered by the Supreme Court.

High Court judges dismissed defence arguments in their hearing on Nov. 2 upholding extradition.

If Assange's request for a Supreme Court appeal is turned down, he could be extradited to Sweden within 10 days.

Swedish prosecutors have not charged Assange with any crime, but have demanded that he return to Scandinavia to face questions.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has launched the website's new project - the publication of hundreds of files detailing a global industry that gives governments tools to spy on their citizens.

They reveal the activities of about 160 companies in 25 countries that develop technologies to allow the tracking and monitoring of individuals by their mobile phones, email accounts and internet browsing histories.

"Today we release over 287 files documenting the reality of the international mass surveillance industry - an industry which now sells equipment to dictators and democracies alike in order to intercept entire populations," Assange told reporters in London on Thursday.

He said that in the past 10 years it had grown from a covert industry that primarily supplied government intelligence agencies such as the NSA in the United States and Britain's GCHQ, to a huge transnational

The House of Commons will, on Monday, debate and vote on demands to change the extradition treaty between the UK and US to provide better protection for British citizens.

It will also call for reform of the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) which can see individuals face transfer to other countries on suspicion of the most minor offences.

It is likely Parliament will vote in favour of reform which will put Mr Cameron in a difficult corner, especially as America is opposed to change.

However, earlier this year the Prime Minister seized on a similar MP debate, on prisoner voting rights, to argue with Europe that the will of Parliament cannot be ignored.

It is welcome news for the families of Britons facing extradition, particularly Janis Sharp, the mother of Gary McKinnon, the autism sufferer wanted by American authorities to answer computer hacking charges.
