Anarchists want to change the world. Instead of the present order – capitalism – with its focus on inequality and profits for a few, we want to build a new society based around the principles of participatory democracy, freedom and production for need not profit. For anarchists the type of society we want to build is best summed up by the slogan: ‘To each according to their needs, from each according to their ability’. read full story / add a comment

Obama who we note is not upsetting the inter-regnum by being presidential change boy when it comes to Gaza, has today named his future head of the CIA. That chap will get articles in the commercial press tomorrow and be assured a really high tech version of google earth after january 20th. But this article being of a tongue in cheek variety wishes to bring readers attention to Obama's appointee to be the director of national intelligence, a post created by Bush for Negreponte after Iraq which in theory allows one bloke or name to oversee the 16 US secret services.

Only one name could do that. yep it's another Blair. read full story / add a comment

The Irish State, by way of government indifference, is moving stealthily towards rejoining the British Commonwealth. This must be confronted and reversed before it is too late. We can and should be on friendly and neighbourly terms with Great Britain, but as equals, not as a lesser or subservient state. We are a sovereign Republic, not a British council. read full story / add a comment

It is easy to get bogged down in the details of the Gaza crisis and who said what. The underlying truth that anyone educated about the conflict knows is that the Palestinians are the true victims here and have been for decades. Lest we not forget, Trade Unionists of Jack O'Connor's ilk SACKED LARKIN from the Union he founded, for wanting what passive Trade Unionism has not achieved in 100 years.

Is it not time that rampant capitalism was curtailed? Is it not time that people with a social conscience were elected, both to run the country and to run trade unions? Is it not time that people who care about the welfare of other's are not branded by capitalists and their willing henchmen, the gutter press, as the loony left?

Is it not time that the people of Ireland stopped seeing wealth as Principle? Is it not time, the sick, the old, the infirm and the children of Ireland were cared for and treated equally? Only a Trade Union decicated to these values will achieve anything, other than being a Puppet of Boom and Bust. read full story / add a comment

The Association of Hunt Saboteurs (AOHS) today witnessed the chased stag at 1pm distressed and disorientated on a road whilst trying to evade the hounds. Regulations set by the Dept of the Environment state the stag must have a 2 kilometer or 30 minute head start.
Despite this at 1pm , an hour into the hunt ,the hounds were no more than two minutes behind the distressed animal in Rolestown Co Dublin. Roads were blocked by hunt cars necessitating u- turns of other vehicles and hounds were out of control and ‘rioting’ (hunt term).

The relentless drive to agglomerate control within a revamped European Union has lost none of its force, despite being pronounced clinically dead by the Irish people on June 12th in a referendum it's government could not avoid hosting. Dead set on simply ignoring the will of the people as demonstrated clearly in resounding No votes in France, Holland and Ireland, the Eurocracy continues to scheme hell-bent on manipulating its desired outcome.

June 12th was a victory of the people over profit, but the battle has only just begun. Will democracy prevail? Or will that historic 'No' vote prove to be democracy's last gasp? Make no mistake: whatever you understand 'democracy' to be, it is at stake here.

But here's the rub: there are some amongst us who invert 'democracy' and all nominally social ideals into their corrupted opposites. Why is that? Are we not all singing from the same hymn-sheet? Apparently not... read full story / add a comment

The Government spent tax-payers money on an advertisement we have all, more than likely, seen. It is the ad saying, change your world, change the world.
The Green Party now holds office, giving Ireland that positive hope of a greener future. Theres no denying, the Government has not completely failed us. There is a 'landfill' of criticism out there but we do have good and accessible recycling centres, green bins, and some like myself have brown bins.
This is not the point. While we go out of our way to recycle, and are somewhat responsible for our part in changing the world for a more greener safer future. Where do the big businesses and Corporations come into all of this? read full story / add a comment

This is an open letter, sent this morning to all TDs using the form at contact.ie, asking for the cuts to education announced in Budget 2008 to be rolled back on.

Feel free to copy and send it yourself to all or any TDs or modify it to suit your own school/constituency.

If only 10% on indymedia.ie users send it to all TDs (about 2,000 people) that will mean 332,000 emails will be sent (2000 users multiplied by 166 TDs) and it will only take you one minute to copy the letter, fill out the form, and hit SEND. I can't but think it might make some difference. read full story / add a comment

Galway, Ireland. This was filmed in November 2008. Thousands upon thousands of square metres of commercial space. All of it empty. Everybody is talking about the residential property crash while these buildings lay empty for years. Who is paying for this?
Commercial property is still seen as a sure investment by banks. Why? This is a very big elephant is dancing in the cupboard. read full story / add a comment
