Here is a video of the audio of a clip recorded from the An Bord Pleanala (ABP) Oral Hearing into the onshore pipeline for the Corrib Gas Project. Although it is very technical in detail in gives an insight into some of the oral hearing and also the way that some language is used to fudge, confuse, protect and hide.

There are currently around 100 student activists occupying the grounds of the Department of Education, on Marlborough St., Dublin.

At the time of writing there is an open space discussion happening on the subject of "alternative education".

Gardai have locked the gate and are not allowing additional participants to enter. However the atmosphere inside is peaceful and constructive.

Come down to Marlborough St. (off Talbot St.) to show your solidarity with the activists inside!

The Surprise Conference 2010, is an event organized by a group of autonomous individuals with the view to starting a more open minded conversation about the future of Irish education that the one that is currently taking place. We feel that the current education system is expensive and inefficient and rather than simply making financial cuts we should make long term structural changes.

Time for a new Land League?

This is a short briefing regarding the ongoing privatisation of Coillte. It needs to be considered in conjunction with the theft of our other resources, including but not limited to oil and gas, water, minerals, fish, seeds and various utilities. I have done as much research into it as I am able for the time being. I hope others will be able to take up the baton and go deeper with a view to developing strategies to counter this. Please pass it this info on to relevant people.

There was a huge turnout on the march today to protest against the IMF/EU Cuts FF Government despite the freezing weather.

A huge mass of people had assembled at Wood Quay for 12 noon and it was a sea of flags, banner and placards and it took at least half an hour possibly more for the full procession of people to pass. Many were blowing whistles and a few banging pots and pans in recognition of the IMF Argentina crisis back in 2001. The march stretched all the way back along the North side of the quays to O'Donovan Rossa bridge connecting Winetavern St beside Wood Quay to Ormonde Quay. ... read full story / add a comment

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions have called a national demonstration on 27th November in Dublin which will see tens of thousands take to the streets. But many are very unhappy with the ICTU leadership and a march called on the basis of 'fairer' cuts and a return to the disasterous policy of Social Partnership. The 1% Network will be taking part in the demonstration not to support the demands of the ICTU leadership but to outline what we see as the alternative. This is not in the expectation that the ICTU leadership can be convinced but because we want to make the argument to the thousands of workers who will take part that it is up to all of us to organise what is needed, a general strike, despite that leadership. ... read full story / add a comment

It's now official, the Irish state is in talks with the EU and the IMF about a so called 'rescue plan' to bail out the Irish capitalist class from the disaster created by the international crash of the capitalist economic system. A crisis that was magnified in Ireland by the corruption of local crony capitalism on the one hand and the dependency of the economy on 'globalization' on the other. Trapped between such a cast of crooks and idiots it is perhaps not surprising that many in Ireland hope things will be improved when the running of our lives will be handed over to those who many hope might have a clue. ... read full story / add a comment

French strikes continue. Strikes spread across the country on fourth day of nationwide protests over pension reforms. Three fuel storage depots have been reopened by riot police in France, as fears grow of a shortage at the pumps. Nine of the country’s 12 refineries have shut down due to strike action prompted by the government’s plans for pension reform. High school students have joined the pension protests for the first time this week. 360 high schools across the country were closed this morning due to protests by students. In Paris, one of them is in a critical condition after being hit in the face by a “flashball” – a device used by police for crowd control.
