A benefit night with trad/ballads will be held for the Eugene McDonagh defence fund. The gig takes place in the Clifton Court Hotel on Eden quay on sat 22 October from 8 onwards. A raffle with spot prizes and food will make for a great night out for a good cause. Eugene was sacked by Dublin bus over an unofficial dispute in 2009. Thousands of Kazakh oil workers are now in their third month of strike action. In their struggle for trade union rights and negotiations over the implementation of a wage agreement, they have faced massive repression and intimidation. Hundreds of workers have now been fired. Their lawyer has been imprisoned for six years for “stirring up social conflict”. The police and riot police have been used against the strikers as well as the company’s security. Next Tuesday, like every tuesday is the open assembly for DRY-Dublin.
