I think it is good to see 'classic' popular films from a previous era. With a good audience discussion afterwards movie viewers of today may learn from past history what influences were active in stereotyping gender and colonial role models. This movie is history; we learn from history.

disgusting sexist film. shame on you. And that sexist poster should be removed. Whose daft idea was it to show this sexist movie for a feminist cause??

One of the people involved in this film screening, or least someone heavily advising people to go was telling people how sexist the seomra spraoi comedy night was and how they shouldn't go but might want to go to the 'Antiroom blog' screening. And now I see your showing this overtly sexist piece of garbage. At least theirs was a COMEDY night.

The Antiroom -Women writing about everything from fashion to feminism, pop culture to politics…
now starting film nights, and I won't be there.

Going to it and looking forward to the discussion afterwards which will most likely include this. Would be daft to boycott it and the bloggers group.

Joe, Unless you provide the general public with a time machine and fix the past you may have noticed that Hollywood is hardly a place of equality even now. Like ‘Gone with the wind’, Mogambo is a historical example of Hollywood blockbuster that actually sidelines the racism issue and concentrates on it’s glamourous surrounding and stars. Hovever the story (if you've watched it) is very interesting because it centres on a illicit triangle with an usual hollywood ending which I’m not going to spoil. See the link below from the group. BTW, no one is making you go see it - you can if you want to. When I see you demonstrating on real inequality such as the latest ‘do you like my bits’ fanta advert, I’ll take some notice of what you say.
Interesting trivia although Hattie McDaniel actually won the 0scar for best supporting actress for Gone with the Wind she was not allowed attend the awards. Disgraceful considering she's the best thing in it.

Best regards, ambivalent.

The poster gives some idea of the sexist nature of this movie. It's hard to believe that people who call themselves feminists are promoting such a film -the "point" of the movie according to the antiroom blog is that even "the bad woman" can land a man . . An ageing Clarke Gable being fought over by two women who were twenty five and thirty years younger at the time of production.

I find the fact the fact that feminists are showing this colonialist film as a new "scramble for Africa" is taking place extremely disturbing.

Joe to quote Vince Vaughan in 'Swingers' where he plays a parody of a playboy and which feminists find funny - 'Get a night life joe'.

I would urge anybody who means to attend the showing of this sexist and colonialist film tonight to first read this review.
