How to act to defend Wikileaks.

category international | anti-capitalism | other press author Friday December 10, 2010 00:37author by john throne - Facts For Working Peopleauthor email loughfinn at aol dot com Report this post to the editors

Capitalism is launching an all our assault to keep its secrets and lies behind closed doors. Activists must defend wikileaks .

The union and labor leaders should be leading the battle to defend the right of all of us to know what is in the cables of capitalism. But they are so much part of the system they will not. While continuing to point this out and to build opposition forces to these union leaders in the workplaces and unions we, the left and all activist and anti capitalist forces, have to act ourselves. We should join Anonymous which is coordinating the defense of wikileaks and its funding base. Boycott Mastercard, Visa, Amazon etc. At the same time we should seek to give more of a democratic structure to Anonymous so it can become a more effective and democratic and decision making body, with a leadership which is collective and has depth, and so is better able to replace itself when capitalism can arrest or otherwise remove more of its leaders.

Wikileaks, Assange, Acting. Capitalism. Socialism.
Wikileaks. Defeat capitalism's offensive to close again the doors to its dirty secrets and lies.

Letter to the left, anti capitalist and radical movement.

What should we do to contribute to the fight against US and world capitalism's effort to close down wikileaks and keep its dirty laundry from our eyes? Here are a few suggestions.

First of all the world's union and labor leaders should be leading a movement to defend wikileaks, for the release and the dropping of all charges against Assange and Manning. It should be using its resources to distribute all the material that wikileaks has available not leaving it up to wikileaks with its tiny resources. But this bureaucracy is so intimidated by capitalism, so convinced that capitalism is the only system, so convinced that the working class cannot build a new society, has itself so many perks from capitalism that it is paralyzed and refuses to act.

We must continue to point out the supine pro capitalist role of this bureaucracy and call on it to change its ways and to take on the system. We must continue to seek to build an opposition to it in the workplace and unions, to open up divisions within the unions and labor movement which will accelerate the possibility of it or some section of it acting, but in the meantime we must also act ourselves. It is not sufficient to complain about the union and labor leaders.

Capitalism is attacking wikileaks by trying to cut off its funds. Organizations like Mastercard, Visa, Paypal, Swiss Banks are leading on this. They are acting under the direction of US capitalism. This is a coordinated offensive. We are at war. Not a war against terrorism but a war against the effort of capitalism to keep the working class and people of the world from knowing how capitalism rules and acts.

The organization which goes by the name of Anonymous is leading the fight back against this onslaught. It has to be unconditionally commended for its leadership role. It is going after the websites and capabilities of these organizations that are attacking wikileaks. All of us who want to halt capitalism's efforts to keep its wars and exploitation secret should support this organization and its work. And not only support it but join it, become part of it. This is an important first step. This organization is coordinating the fightback. All strength at the point of attack or in this case all strength at the point of defense.

As part of being involved in Anonymous we should try to give it more structure and to democratize this movement. That not only should there be chat rooms and electronic facilities where the participants connect, and coordinate the struggle, but that all who are on it also organize regular person to person meetings in their workplace, unions, neighborhoods and in this way elect democratic representatives who can come together locally, regionally, nationally and internationally and create an international democratic structure. Build a democratic movement with structure.

Such a movement could mobilize the movement on a more than daily basis internationally but also call regional and international mobilizations and conferences to allow for democratic decision making structures and a democratically elected leadership to evolve. This should be what we aim for.

#Hands of Wikileaks. Release Assange and Manning.

#Boycott all organizations that are involved in attacking Wikileaks.

#Build Hands of Wikileaks committees in the workplaces, neighborhoods, trade unions, labor organizations, neighborhoods, regionally, nationally and internationally. Root Anonymous in the working class. Make it a working class organization. In this way give more of a democratic structure to the Anonymous movement. A democratic structure which cam make decisions democratically and which can have a collective leadership which can replace itself when and if capitalism removes some of its members.

#Explain within this movement that capitalism cannot exist without its secrets and lies, its capitalist diplomacy. The peoples of the world cannot afford these secrets and lies, this capitalist diplomacy. So we have to work not just to end the secrets and lies, we also have to work to end capitalism and build a democratic socialist world.

Sean.

You are missing the point somewhat John. Anonymous is engaged in acts of deliberate cyber sabotage. The reason it is "Anonymous" is because its volunteers are breaking the law. Many states have large fines and custodial prison sentences for DDos ing. Im not sure exactly what the penalties are here in Ireland. Possibly not as bad as in some other states. Kids, Be very careful if volunteering to do this. Use public computers / free public wifi hotspots. Use the browser version of the program (LOIC). don't log on with your own account info or check your own mail or facebook pages or internet pages in the same session. just enter, do your thing quietly and go.Don't make yourself noticeable. wear a hat, glasses. change between premises. Be aware of cctv. if on camera, choose your location appropriately where facial detaiis are not visible, or go elsewhere. Simple precautions. Basically use your head.

Article from Manuel Castells (Princeton University): The Cyberwar of Wikileaks.

"The cyberwar has begun. It is not a cyberwar between states, as expected, but between states and the civil society itself. Never again will the governments be sure to keep their citizens in the ignorance of their manouvres. Because while there exists people able to do leaks and an internet with wikis, there will arouse new generations of Wikileaks"

One Anonymous hacker said: "I've rambled on and on about the 'oncoming internet war' for years. I'm not saying I know how to win. But I am saying the war is on."

So far more than 9,000 users in the US have downloaded the software; in second place is the UK with 3,000. Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, France, Spain, Poland, Russia and Australia follow with more than 1,000. The 11th country embroiled in the attacks is Sweden, where WikiLeaks's massive underground servers are housed, with 75 downloads.

Sean-Paul Correll, a cyber threat analyst at Panda Security, who has monitored Operation Payback since its conception, said it was impossible to "profile" those involved. "They are anonymous and they are everywhere," he said. "They have day jobs. They are adults and kids. It is just a bunch of people." How WikiLeaks builds a global open source insurgency, By Okke Ornstein
http://www.ornstein.org/2010/12/04/how-wikileaks-builds...ency/

“I thought it would take two years instead of four to be recognised by others as having this important role, so we are still a little behind schedule and have much more work to do.”

Julian Assange, in a Q&A session with readers of the Guardian, December 3rd.

Nobody has really picked up on this yet, but apparently there is a schedule. And where there is a schedule there is a plan. And looking at where things are going, the plan is for radical change, and it relies on an open source model.

First step, apparently, was getting the ammo.
The next step in the WikiLeaks plan would then be to create a swarm.

All this points to grand strategic thinking. With WikiLeaks now being hosted by a swarm of people around the globe, these volunteers are now part of WikiLeaks themselves – the emerging WikiLeaks tribe

By that time the “conspiracy” will be crumbling under the relentless attacks of this open source insurgency – our insurgency, really. So that we can build something new, from the bottom up, to replace it.
