In the Guardian's latest climate gobbledegook, Friederike Otto redefines climate change as a "crisis of justice", focusing on moralising and social justice rather than the science, argues Charles Rotter.

New campaign launched to support Independent candidates

category national | politics / elections | press release author Thursday November 25, 2010 11:06author by Independents Movement of Ireland (IMI) - Independents Movement of Ireland (IMI)author email irishindependents at gmail dot comauthor phone 087-235-9612 Report this post to the editors

Vote Independent - Be Independent

Political parties are not mentioned in the Constitution.

A new campaign is currently being launched, with the aim of giving people a real alternative to the Fine Gael/Labour coalition that is on the cards - and returning true democracy to Ireland.

The public are urged to come to a meeting in the Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin, tonight (Thursday), and tomorrow night, at 8.00pm.

IMI was recently been formed in response to the announcement that there will be an election in the New Year, and the limited options that are currently being presented to the Irish people – particularly in light of the threat to Irish independence, posed by the proposed handing over of sovereignty to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The party whip system, which takes away the parliamentarian’s free will to vote his conscience, or his constituents will, has deprived citizens of their constitutional right to representation.

The coalition system, which sees competing parties, who are often diametrically opposed to each other, form a divided government, has also deprived citizens of their constitutional right to effective representation and leadership. That is why the Fianna Fail/Progressive Democrat/Green Party Government had led us to this point.

Statement of the Independents Movement of Ireland (IMI)

Independents Movement of Ireland (IMI) is new initiative that encourages Irish citizens, in all constituencies, to run as Independent candidates and to vote for Independent candidates, in the next election. If enough Independent candidates are elected, they can form a national government that is directly accountable to the people, and breaks the strangle-hold political parties have on our democracy, by getting rid of the middle-man.

An Independent Government is the only real alternative to a Fine Gael/Labour coalition Government that is currently available to the Irish people.

We are constantly being told by political parties that a vote for an Independent is a wasted vote, because that representative will not be in Government.

This campaign is an act of faith in the Irish people; that in every community lie good, honest, hard-working people, who genuinely want to serve their neighbours and their country, by standing for office. Alone, they are powerless, but combined; they represent the sum total of the political will and power of the Irish nation. We believe in that nation, but not the political party system that has failed us, and returned us to the prospect of economic and political colonialism.

IMI will launch a national Vote Independent campaign at the protest march in Dublin this Saturday, 28 November. We will then begin to organise events that give a platform to Independent candidates at a national and local level.

The public are urged to come to a meeting in the Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin, tonight (Thursday), and tomorrow night, at 8.00pm.
