Day-to-day weather, with all its extremes, is "just weather", according to the IPCC. With their authority onside, we can shrug off the BBC's melodramatic climate reports and misinformation, says Mark Ellse.

The sweeping House of Commons reforms proposed by Green MP Ellie Chowns are evidence that the Mrs Dutt-Pauker types have moved from Peter Simple's columns into public life. We're in for a bumpy ride, says Sean Walsh.

National Forum: 'There Is An Alternative'

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | event notice author Tuesday April 06, 2010 11:47author by D_D - Dublin Council of Trade Unions Report this post to the editors

Dublin Council of Trade Unions
National Forum
'There Is An Alternative'

12pm to 3pm
Saturday 8th May
Liberty Hall
Dublin, 1.

In view of the then oncoming cuts in public and social spending, cuts which have come to pass in the December budget and at other times, which have transferred the cost of the economic crisis on to working people, the poorest and the most defenceless, while billions of euro are handed over to the banks to bail them out, the Dublin Council of Trade Unions successfully proposed the following Motion to the 2009 Biennial Conference of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions:

“Conference calls on the Executive Committee to convene a Forum of Social, Community and Cultural Groups, sympathetic to the needs of working people in order to prepare a platform to promote an agreed programme for the development of a socially responsive and balanced Irish economy, cognisant of their needs and interests.”

To assist in following up that Motion the Dublin Council of Trade Unions is convening a Forum of Trades Councils, trade unions, trade unionists, community organisations, campaigns, NGOs, political parties and organisations, independent TDs, etc. to discuss the formulation of a platform of aims, as referred to in the Motion, and a plan of campaign to seek their achievement.

A preliminary invitation has been sent to many organisations (please check with your own) to send up to three people and to participate in the Forum. Participation does not imply any policy commitments in advance and decisions will be made by consensus if at all possible. Fuller details of the agenda and introductory speakers will be sent to you shortly. The Forum will take place on Saturday 8th May from 12 pm to 3 pm in Liberty Hall, Dublin. Organisations should reply by 24th April.
