Organising Health Workers in Las Vegas

8pm, Friday, 15th January in Solidarity Books, 43 Douglas Street.

This is the story about how 5-6 full time activists, and 20 or so part time union activists succeeded in organising thousands of workers across 6 hospitals in Las Vegas, a city in the middle of a desert, with no history of union organising.

It is rare that you find out the nuts and bolts of how people bring about change on the ground, and there is a lot to think about in his talk. While Cork is a long way from Las Vegas, there are things here that we, as activists, need to learn about.

What people have said about this talk:

- "The best talk I've ever heard."

- "I found last night really stimulating ... I am not sure if the 'techniques' discussed are a panacea for all the things we are trying to do but the freshness, ambition and clarity that underpinned the the union work ... in Vegas was really inspiring."

A further workshop will be held the following afternoon, Saturday, 16th January, from 2-5pm in order to start developing the techniques and skills used in the organising effort described in the talk. Come to the talk and if it inspires you as it has others, consider coming to the workshop too.
