Day of Discussion and Debate (Limerick)

Sick of cuts, bail-outs and no jobs? Come to the Day of Discussion & Debate!

On Saturday 15th August, the Limerick Socialist Party and Socialist Youth will hold a day of discussion and debate beginning at 1pm in Pery's Hotel. The day is designed to provide a forum for people sick of unemployment, low wages and cutbacks.

There are now nearly 3,400 under 25s signing on in Limerick. When a possible cut to the minimum wage and the introduction of third level fees are considered it is clear to see how young people's future is truly under attack. Among other things, Limerick Socialist Youth will be organising a picket at the Limerick Chamber of Commerce under the slogan: "We aren't monkeys - we won't work for peanuts!" to highlight the issues facing people and to publicise the day of discussion. (Article on picket: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/93455)

The day will begin at 1pm with a debate between Socialist Youth and Ógra Sinn Féin on 'What is the left solution to the capitalist crisis?'. Following this, at 2.30pm, there will be a discussion introduced by a Socialist Party speaker on '1930s crash all over again - was Marx right?'. The discussion and debate will take place at Pery's Hotel on Glentworth Street - near Tait's clock.

We are facing into the worst economic crisis in eighty years, now is the time to have another look at the ideas of Karl Marx and to debate the best way forward. This meeting was organised to give ordinary people the opportunity to discuss alternatives to the capitalist crisis that is hitting them so hard.
