EOGHAN RUA Ó SÚILLEABHÁIN is the first readers' edition of the work of Kerry poet Eoghan Rua Ó Súilleabháin (1748-84), some of whose songs remain immensely popular in Irish-speaking districts of Munster. It includes a masterly introduction locating the poet and his work in wider historical and literary contexts and extensive notes and glossaries. It is an invaluable resource for teachers and students of Irish literature.
BREANDÁN Ó CONCHÚIR is an authority on the verse of eighteenth-century Munster. Formerly Professor of Modern Irish in University College, Cork, his publications include Scríobhaithe Chorcaí 1700-1850 (1982), Corraghliocas na mBan (1991) and Clár Lámhscríbhinní Gaeilge Choláiste OllscoiLe Chorcaí: Cnuasach Uí Mhurchú (1991).

Good to see Eoghan Rua celebrated and, in fact, it might spur on a reassessment of poets from the 18th and into the 19th centuries too who have been forgotten or abandoned in our time. They may show us something of the art of protesting-through-satire, now that we have a government that cares nothing for culture, and less for the poor.
