Earth Liberation Front Press Office Applauds the Removal of General Motors' CEO Rick Wagoner; Urges Obama Administration to Force GM into Bankruptcy

Wagoner had been listed as a top ecoterrorist in the United States on the ELF Press Office website located at http://www.elfpressoffice.org

Washington, D.C. - With the White House's removal of General Motors' CEO Rick Wagoner, the Earth Liberation Front Press Office is urging the Obama Administration to force General Motors into bankruptcy by refusing further economic bailout assistance.

While President Obama rejected the restructuring plans submitted by General Motors and Chrysler, he did agree to provide General Motors with working capital for 60 days in order for GM to complete a revised and better business plan. Both General Motors and Chrysler already received $17.4 billion in bailout money in December and were asking Congress for another $21.6 billion.

"By greedy, environmentally damaging and inefficient business practices, General Motors has dug its own grave," stated ELF Press Officer Tomas Peterson. "The American taxpayer should not be forced to bail out a U.S. corporation just because General Motors made many bad business decisions and couldn't balance its checkbook."

Peterson points to General Motors' purchase of the rights to the Hummer name and subsequent production of the gas guzzling sport utility vehicle in 1999 as a prime example of General Motors lack of business sense and concern for the environment. "At the same time General Motors killed its successful EV1 electric car in 1999, GM began large-scale production of the Hummer H1, which gets 8-10 mpg," stated Peterson. "This was an inexcusable decision on the part of GM, one that increased global warming, and in the end only added to GM's failure as they now attempt to sell off and discontinue the Hummer line."

The Earth Liberation Front, or ELF, is an international, underground movement consisting of
autonomous groups of people who engage in direct actions to protect the planet. Formed in 1992
in Brighton, England as an offshoot of the Earth First! movement, the ELF has been active in
the United States since 1996.

Notorious ELF actions have included the $24 million arson attack at Colorado's Vail Ski Resort in 1998 and a $1 million fire set at a West Covina, CA dealership that damaged over 40 Hummers and SUVs in August 2003. In the last ten years, the ELF has caused over $150 million in damages to environmentally destructive corporations without causing a single injury. Since 2001 the ELF has been considered the top domestic terror threat by the F.B.I.
