Clare - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Shannon Torture Watch![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Vigil to protest against US military and CIA use of Shannon Airport The monthly Shannon Torture Watch vigil takes place on Sunday January 11th from 2pm to 3pm. Meet as usual at the small roundabout near the security hut (gantry) at the airport entrance. January 11th is the seventh anniversary of the arrival of the first prisoners at the US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay. Since 2002, more than 1,000 men and boys have been imprisoned there, and have been subjected to cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment by a government that has abandoned justice. None have been charged, tried or convicted of any crime. Ireland is playing a part in the illegal imprisonment of prisoners in Guantanamo by making Shannon airport available to the rendition planes. Come along to Shannon on January 11th to add your voice to the calls to close Guantanamo, and to demand an end to the ongoing use of Shannon airport for all US military and CIA use. |
