RSF have slammed Facebook for allowing ads for people to join British death squads.

Republican Sinn Féin have condemned Facebook for carrying recruitment advertisements for British Military Intelligence on their social networking site. A spokesman for the organisation said that vulnerable young people were being targeted by sinister elements within the British Establishment.

Director of Publicity, Richard Walsh, said:

“Facebook is a popular social networking website, used by a great many young people. By allowing the British Military Intelligence agency, MI6, to use their site for the purposes of recruitment means that young and vulnerable people are being encouraged to enlist in an organisation renowned for its role in death and destruction throughout the globe.

“Young people are being encouraged to consider a career in murder and mayhem – including the targeting of Irish citizens and residents – by sinister elements within the British Establishment, aided and abetted by those in administration at Facebook. There is an onus on parents to ensure that their children are not accessing the website. Schools must also ensure that it cannot be accessed through an internet proxy. This is essential to fulfil their duty of care to pupils on their premises.

“In September of last year we witnessed MI5 enlistment advertisements being carried in a number of newspapers within the Six Occupied Counties, including the allegedly Nationalist Irish News.

“Anyone joining or otherwise assisting British intelligence agencies is an enemy of the Irish people.”
