The Church of England may not still be the Conservative Party at prayer, but the US Catholic Church, with its pro-migrant messages, certainly seems to be the religious wing of the Democratic Party, says Prof Roger Watson.

De Juana Chaos on Hunger Strike again.

category international | crime and justice | other press author Friday July 18, 2008 14:46author by by Report this post to the editors

Iņaki de Juana Chaos who is due to be released this Summer has informed both the Basque political prisoner network and the authorities of his prison that he is on hunger strike again.

He has offered as reason the concerted media campaign of vilification launched against him in the last days as it was revealed that upon leaving prison and completing his prison sentences he will take up residence in a flat owned by his wife, who he married whilst in prison, on the same street as several victims of ETA.

de Juana Chaos was the principle assassin of the terrorist grouping ETA and one of its most prominent members and for some an individual whose hunger strikes threw more spanners in the tentative peace process resulting from the 9th ETA ceasefire than helped things along.

But there is no doubt that the usual suspects of the Spanish right wing are as happy to attack Iņaki de Juana Chaos as he seems content to complain and respond.

Yesterday's cartoon in the right wing "El Mundo" daily newspaper was the floorplan of the flat to which he will move on release. This predictable focussing of mutual resentment and hatred as usual has served to copperfasten attitudes to the current debates in the Spanish state on bilingual policies and application in the Basque, Navarra, Catalonia and Galicia as well as set the scene for the decision of the Spanish judiciary yesterday to deem illegal the Basque premier's planned consultation on the wishes of the Basque people for a referendum on independence this October.

"the referendum about a referendum".

Quite.

Jolly serious stuff, which really doesn't matter diddly eye squit as long as those who think Iņaki is cool and those who think he's a murdering psychopath can talk about him not eatingagain
