Did the Workers Solidarity Movement turn down your invitation?

Is this the same Patricia McKenna that is the former Green MEP and a supporter of the Government? I hope that the other genuine opponants of the Treaty will expose her for her Government's positions on health, education, EU, Shell2Sea, privatisation, etc., etc.

Just what the Lisbonites want! A Split. Global Notes leave out the other issues and concentrate on defeating the treaty; if you don't we might lose. If we start arguing amongst ourselves what hope is there of convincing the public we should be taken seriously. You're playing into the hands of the treaty-friendly media efforts to divide us. Stay united above all.

And God only knows where they come from. The Campaign Against the Lisbon Treaty (CAEUC) is growing - as mentioned in the other thread, over the last 48 hours the Socialist Party, Eirigi and the Community Workers Action Group, Crumlin, have affiliated. Our comrades of the ISN are also likely to affiliate.
From the progressive/left area only our anarchist friends and the WSM have not as yet committed to our NO Campaign -there is no split !! Patricia is welcome, She represents the Peoples Movement and the Green dissidents and she will work well with us.
I agree fully with the last post. Unity is our strength - this is a very broad front and we have a great chance of beating Bertie and his accolytes.

Though I'm not a leftie, I'll go along. I'm suspicious of this "reform treaty" myself so it'll be an interesting meeting.

The WSM has had no contact from the CAEUC whatsoever. We have decided to campaign against the treaty, but we'd have to know a lot more about the CAEUC before we got involved - how it makes decisions, what it's basic points of unity are and so on and there's a significant chance that we wouldn't have enough in common with the affiliates to fruitfully involve ourselves. As far as I can make out (and the lack of information means that I have to infer this from what some of the affiliates are saying) we have major disagreements with most of the CAEUC affiliates over the significance of this treaty.

As usual, Michael Y's mention of us is disingenuous. If he really gave a damn about whether we were involved or not, he would have, you know, contacted us, or even got the campaign to contact us. Expecting us to sign up to a campaign which we have no information about (check out the cauec about us page: http://www.caeuc.org/index.php?q=node/1 totally blank!) and no way of having any input into policy is obviously ridiculous and not at all the sort of thing that we're going to consider.

I am not going to go into a personal argument with you dear friend - and I mean that last concept.

The Campaign against the Lisbon Treaty has been meeting and working for the last 3 months. Most of the political party affiliations began to take place over January and February. Our website is new and our pamphlet Lisbon Treaty - Vote No, ouitlining where we stand, came out of the printer's only last Thursday.
We've had six Plenary meetings in the Teachers Club, the last one on Saturday last, local Constituency meetings in Baldoyle, Dun Laoghaire and in Rathmines tonight and a very successful Public/Launch meeting, with every affiliated organisations present, last Thursday in the Central Hotel.
I am delighted to hear that the anarchist movement would work for a NO vote - now while it is understandable that you feel you should have been "contacted" by the Campaign, or even me, please excuse our shortcomings - we are just finding our feet, we have just completed designing our website and all other affiliates, all of 12 of them, contacted members of the Campaign and began working with us. None of them were contacted separately.

My comment above, which you unfortunately found "disingenuous", was meant to be an indirect invitation for you (not y o u personally but the anarchist comrades) to consider affiliating or thinking about the CAEUC. And to that extent it appears it was successful - even if I say so. For any information on the structures, views, politics and vision of the CAEUC please contact any of the affiliated organisations - or the website - or ask any questions you may have and will do our best to answer. Either privately or through Indymedia.;

Why are there 2 swp speakers at the Campaign Against the Lisbon Treaty meeting in Finglas? Why is there noone from the ISN or SP? Both groups have members in the area? Is this campaign just another swp front? I sincerely hope not. That would be the deciding factor in whether I would personally get involved.

Good luck to CAEUC- an impressive groups with lots of people working in it. At least some people have started the ball rolling campaigning against this treaty instead of sitting around scratching their arses.

If one examines footage in Part 2 , they will notice this Traitor mentioning - JUNE 2008 is the date set for the Referendum on an E.U.CONSTITUTION - not a Treaty.

It is important for People to veiw all Three to understand what is going on here.
We're talking a Totaliterian GLOBAL UNION and Ireland is the only Country at the moment that can stop this.

If any one is in any way familiar with the objectives of the C.F.R., they would advocate a NO VOTE.

I was wondering why you are trying to pick a fight hiding behind a name
1. Maths lesson- check it out- there are not 2 speakers from any organisation speaking.
2. Have you written to both the aforementioned groups to ask them why they are not down as speakers?
3. Me thinks your just a shit stirrer who is not a member of either the groups mentioned
4. If you are deciding to getting involved or not maybe if this kind of rubbish above is your starting point the campaign may be better off without.

Well done to all involved in the meeting above- sinn fein, people before profit, swp, Unite Trade Union.

Fair play to Michael and others for making sure these meetings happen.

(1) A number of organisations, affiliated to the Campaign, are also organising their own meetings, under their own steam, inviting speakers they deem knowledgeable and interesting. People Before Profit, for example, had a very good meeting in Rathmines the night before last, with Patricia, Cllr Doolan and myself speaking. Re: the question of 'interested' above, the Finglas meeting is going to be chaired by a very good local activist - both the SP and the ISN are now affiliated to the CAEUC and nothing would stop them from attending and speaking - Joe has spoken in a number of meetings anyway. I have just heard that People Before Profit are organising another meeting on Monday 18th in the Parish Centre in Prussia St. Two PBP speakers (one SWP one not) and a CAEUC speaker are planned. Bottom line - we are making a genuine effort to work within a non-sectarian and really democratic set up where all affiliated organisations play a full and active part. Constructive criticism is more than welcome - but pls pls lets stick to facts. there is a definite feeling of working together, of not becoming a surrogate of any outfit and we're all optimistic that we can win this Referendum.

(2) re: the question of the Workers Party - they're fully involved and extremely helpful. On the IRSP, I know a couple of their members have taken part in meetings but the organisation has not as yet affiliated. The CAEUC door remains open to all who wish to come in and accept the political positions and structures of the Campaign.

Raquel is a member of the French Socialist Party's National Council and was one of the main organisers in the defeat of the EU Constitution Referendum in France in 2005.

Small room, good turnout. All speakers were excellent. Particularly nice to se the WP and IWU there. Apologies for red-eye :P
