Naturally since the different states of the US have differing views on the death penalty there will be differences in the pattern. But so what? Is there some rule there has to be uniformity of practice in a federal system? Also the fact remains that even among the population of convicted first-degree murderers in the US the rate of execution is very low.

A country that does not execute people for serious crime including theft is clearly barbarous. The Irish and the Indians in America were barbarians and did not have the death until they were civilized by the English.

Executions in the USA since the reintroduction of the death penalty when compared on an intensity & representational basis with China must take into account the clusters of sentances passed & carried out state by state (in the case of the USA) or province by province (in the case of PRC). you didn't do that. If you had you'd see Texas executes much more people than Xinuan (just for example). Hunan out kills Oregon (just for another example). Sure, fiddle me giggling & merry, Sceptic if we do the demographic representation thing Bloody Sunday was worse than Tianamen Square. But & now I'll concede a point here, coz I'm fair & not looking to provoke you into revealing your prison record - if we compare federal execution warrents in the US to "one state" equivalents in PRC (carried out by the red army) the Chinese are worse by far. What can we learn from this? There's a big difference between a western Chinese ZAL and Texas? Numbers as Galileo's inquisitor said, may crunch whatever way your torturer wants?

There is sleight of hand in the headline here since there is no comparison between the numbers executed in China and the US and only by combining the toll of 32 years back to 1976 were it possible to come up with a figure of over ONE thousand over all of this period for the US. Moreover execution is a very rare event in the US considering the size of the population now over 300 million. Also the thread deliberates conflates judicial execution with murder. There are entirely distinct concepts that anyone can understand yet language is abused and intelligence insulted by confusing them. The Government of Iraq is autonomous with respect to its own laws and it is facing a deadly civil war as well as such blood soaked specimens as Chemical Ali left over from the Baathist days. In these circumstances some number of executions might be excused. China is not a democracy or a pluralist State and it has executed for so called political crime as well as crime ordinary. Moreover it also has no independent judiciary – that is just another arm of the part. Any comparison with the US does not sand up.

The Chinese execute more people annually than the rest of the world combined.

A startling fact and one that is overlooked in the west in light of greater economic co-operation. The west likes China now so refuses to demonise it. China has the worst HR record of any country on the planet yet we hear very little of this from the West.

I stated that 1100 people have executed in the US since 1986, that should read 1976.
