From what you have posted above I presume those are your own words and not quotes from some fool journo working for WorldNetDaily, that well known purveyor of truthful accurate reportage, or some other propaganda disseminator

Now as far as I know despite the thousands of column inches in newsprint, and the millions of minutes in broadcast media devoted to the dessimination of the notion the Padilla was about to explode a 'dirty-bomb' absolutely NO evidence was ever produced to back up that charge. Indeed the US Gov't did their best to avoid every oppurtunity afforded to them to substantiate the chage in a court of law.

Similarly your own post appears to support the ridiculous notion:

it was Guy de Cervens who wrote about an AQ website warning people to leave various cities, not me. I would not place any credence on such reports. But people are right to be concerned about the issue of nuclear terrorism at least in the long term and the only reliable option in the face of that threat is preemption.

Its not paranoia. The problem is that states can be deterred from nuclear weapons but terrorists cannot. Hence terrorists must be prevented from getting nuclear weapons in the first place at all costs. 9/11 shattered what had previously been a happy optimism or nativity that the worst would not happen. It was not that the attacks could not be conceived but rather it was though unthinkable that they would happen. Its the fear of nuclear terrorism and nuclear armed rogue regimes operating in league worth terrorist and militant non-state actors of various kinds that drove the US post 9/11 to take out Saddam and is driving the effort to prevent Iran acquiring such weapons.

Incidentally the Straits of Hormuz are fifteen miles wide and terrorists would not easily close them, unless Oman became a failed state. Even Iran might not be able to close the straits so long as they were well defended. The Iranian regime did not seriously try this during the 1980 to 1988 war though they would have dearly loved to. That was a successful deterrence.

A suitcase bomb, though impressive in fiction, would be a waste of time and resources, as a previous poster has pointed out. This is more whining and fear mongering - this time perhaps not to talk up a war, so much as fearing the chickens coming home to roost.

Spending 6.5 plus Million dollars on a suitcase nuke which has all the power to take out say;the golden gate bridge, or downtown Manhattan. When for appx 100,000 dollars you can train a bunch of fanatics in Iraq,arm them with box cutters ,take over five aircraft,and create mayhem??? AQ might be rich,but they are not daft with their money either.
Or simply hit the oil production facilities of Saudi,Russia,Venezula,the Alaskan pipeline,the Trans Caucassus line and orchestrate a blockage of the Hormuz straights??
All very vunerable,easy to do and a lot cheaper than going around the world hunting what most people in the know rate as either Govt intelligence agencies sting operations or a mythical creature,the saleable nuke.The West and the rest of the infidels could be choked by doing somthing like the above scenario,but the kickback on the rest of the World would be terrible

Well,if they did do a nuke strike...I would say a very quick investment by the rest of the world in canned food and shotguns would be adviseable.Not to mind sun block in the 16million factor as well .

...because if America is attacked using nuclear means, they will surely retaliate in kind. This means that it is effectively the end of the world. At a guess I would say this is more islamofascist propaganda designed to scare everyone. If Al Qaeda or other crazy people had nukes, they would have used them by now. As far back as one year after 9/11 there were chain emails going around to this effect.

The old mechanisms of 'control over' have been instilled and used largely by the Politico/Religionists from time immemorial.

Basically by the use of fear of death, fear of not reaching heaven, fear of dark forces, fear of strangers, fear of failure, etc. etc. ad infinitum.

Keep up the pressure and eventually the controllers are able to manipulate a group or population, by installing rules to maintain their status quo.

Yes, they are, but it is all hyped up by the government. If there is a nuclear attack, you can be sure it will be carried out by the US state to complete transition to the Police State. It just like the buildup to the Iraq war, lots of fakes lies and disinformation to justify the war. And now that the propaganda second time around has been a bit harder to swallow to justify the Iran war which they desparately want to start, we have all this stuff about nuclear attacks.
