category international | crime and justice | other press author Thursday August 23, 2007 18:04author by Chris Murray Report this post to the editors

And a Link to Campaign on Reporters Without Borders

Six named Feminist Activist Writers received custodial sentences in the last few months in
Iran, since that time three web designers and activists have also received sentences.
The original report was on the Manila based Isis women Site:-
Iran:- Women's Rights Continue to Plunge-
http://www.isiswomen.org

The charges against the six included "Acting against National Security by participating in
an illegal gathering" and "Collusion and assembly to endanger National Security".

The three others who received custodial sentences were organisers and web-designers
and I will add in the link when I source it. This was also covered by isiswomen in Manila
who act as a meeting place for community based women's projects and internet/radio
broadcast services.

Since the murder of Anna Politkovskyaya in October 2006 there have been assasinations
of two Afghan women journalists*, 9 incarcerations of Iranian women Journalists and
an attempt on the life of a Mexican radio journalist who was an advocate
against child abuse and trafficking in Mexico. The Justice for Anna Campaign which is
continuing in both the Reporters Without Borders and IWMF sites are asking people
to sign the petition and look at the situation with regard to danger in reportage for
both men and women journalists.
