tighten those belts...

category national | miscellaneous | opinion/analysis author Friday June 15, 2007 13:57author by Conor Report this post to the editors

The working class is the creative class: the working class produces what material wealth exists in a country. And while power is not in their hands, while the working class allows power to remain in the hands of the landlords who exploit them, in the hands of the speculators, in the hands of the monopolies, in the hands of foreign and national interest groups, while armaments are in the hands of those in the service of these interest groups and not in their own hands, the working class will be forced to lead a miserable existence no matter how many crumbs those interest groups should let fall from their banquet table.

- Fidel Castro

While the country is getting more expensive, the cost of living is going up. Bertie tells us we may have to tighten those belts as times get a little harder. Well maybe for us peasants we might need to tighten our belts, but for you Bertie the only belt you need to tighten is the one around your wallet to stop all that cash from squeezing out. It seem with all the wealth generated with the Celtic Tiger that everybody has alot more money. Thats true all right. The rich are getting extremely wealthy and the poor have a bit more money but with rising costs of living theres not much difference for the poor. The rising cost of living only effects the lower classes but the rich dont even notice. A bag of chips cost €2.30 now, so the saying as cheap as chips is out the door now unless your wealthy.
I like the quote from Fidel as above but I dont agree with all he says or does. Im pissed of with how the Irish people are being treated by our government. Theres so many problem with this country I dont know where to start. They're selling of our gas reserves for the benefit of a foreign company. They're ready to destroy national heritage for the benefit of having a road. With the cost of living rising they keep uping their own wages and forgetting about us. Private patients are taking up public beds in hospitals and their solution is to build private hospitals on public land when they should be sorting out the consultants and sending those private patients to private beds and if theres no beds well then they just have to go public like the rest of us and join the que. Crime is on the rise and all they want is more Garda when they should look at the root of the problems and notice that crime in general, not all, comes from inequality. The government supports foreign wars of occupation and resource wars without questioning anything when we as a nation know all about the effects of this from the hands of the British. But Ireland is changing, where will we be in several years time. I wonder???
