Labour plans to build 1.5 million new homes in five years. That's 821 per day, 34 per hour. No chance, says Sallust. And when this turns into another broken promise, it will all be someone else's fault, naturally.

The furore over Kirstie Allsopp's decision to allow her 15 year-old son to go interrailing is ridiculous. Sending teenagers off on adventures is a great way to build confidence and self-reliance.

Council of Europe declares CIA ran secret prisons in Poland and Romania

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Friday June 08, 2007 15:05author by Seán Ryan Report this post to the editors

Today the Council of Europe has declared that the CIA ran secret detention facilities in Romania and Poland between 2002 and 2005.

A report issued by the Council of Europe and drafted by Dick Marty a Swiss politician has also criticised Germany and Italy for obstructing investigations into secret kidnappings by the CIA.

This repot also says that the "highest state authorities" in countries involved knew of the illegal detention facilities.

Should this report from Marty be proven to fact (and presently it is doubtful that anyone can prove it to be false) it will spell disaster for governments around the world, especially the US, Marty says that these secret prisons were run exclusively by the CIA (torture etc.). Back in good old Ireland, flight data will have to be looked at anew.

PACE president René van der Linden said today, “I don’t know which is more shocking: that European governments have been complicit in these activities, violating their legal obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights; or that they have used anti-democratic methods to conceal their actions and frustrate parliamentary and judicial investigations,”
